Canterbury horse racing tips
Race 1. (18:15) ANZ Bloodstock News Maiden (1550m)
#1 – Mightybeel @ $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Mightybeel comes off a second placing at Newcastle and although 2.3 lengths behind the winner, he strips fitter for this contest.
The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old looks to have a bright future and it shouldn’t take him long to break maiden status.
James McDonald rides and that’s a positive.
Race 2. (18:45) Hyland Race Colours BM72 (1250m)
#1 – Frozen In Time @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kris Lees-trained four-year-old comes off solid form, which includes a win and a placing. She is a five-time winner from 17 starts, and there is nothing wrong with that record.
The daughter of Husson wasn’t far away when fourth at Canterbury last start, and that came against a stronger field.
2kg comes off her back, which is ideal.
Race 3. (19:15) Tab BM72 (1550m)
#7 – Harmonium @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Harmonium is getting close to a win after notching back-to-back placings. She is a three-year-old filly that was only 1.3 lengths behind a nice type last time out.
We’re expecting that form to stack up nicely and although she takes on tough opposition here, she gets down in the weights with the claim.
Punters get value each-way odds.
Race 4. (19:45) Stud & Stable Staff Awards BM72 (1900m)
#2 – Game of Thorns @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Winning doesn’t come easy for Game of Thorns, but she has more talent than most. The Lees-trained mare finished second at Randwick last start, and city form is ideal.
She has figured in the finish in eight of her 17 starts, and she hasn’t had much luck in many of those runs.
There shouldn’t be any excuses here, so put her on top of selections.
Race 5. (20:15) Sky Racing Active BM64 (1200m)
#11 – Expat @ $6.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Expat comes off two wins from three starts and we’re expecting that form to stack up beautifully for this contest.
The Mark Newnham-trained filly scored a narrow win at Newcastle last time out and she showed good barrier speed to lead.
That is a good asset to have and dropping in weight with the 2kg claim brings her into contention.
Race 6. (20:45) The Agency Real Estate BM72 (1550m)
#7 – Kaptive @ $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Kaptive capped off consistent form with a win at Canterbury and he could go back-to-back.
The Hawkes-trained four-year-old handled the heavy track, and although conditions are slightly different, the easing of the track shouldn’t be a worry.
He has talent and punters get juicy odds to enjoy.
Race 7. (21:15) Evening Star BM78 (1250m)
#2 – Starspangled Rodeo @ $4.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
It was a big run from the former Kiwi runner last start after getting too far back in the run and making late ground.
The Bjorn Baker-trained six-year-old has been enigmatic throughout his career, but he owns four wins and four placings from just 12 starts.
James McDonald rides and punters should be confident of a big effort.
Race 8. (21:45) Bowermans Furniture BM72 (1100m)
#2 – Marway @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Marway is shooting for three consecutive wins after scoring on either side of a spell. He won at Rockhampton before coming to Sydney and scoring a win at Warwick Farm.
The son of Hemingway defeated a good field and he’s more than capable of winning again. That form bodes well and the change to Mark Newnham’s stable has worked wonders.
$5.50 is a price worth taking.
