Canterbury horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (12:50) Admire Mars At Arrowfield (1250m)
#1 – Construct @ $4.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt turned his form around when finishing third last start and that’s a step in the right direction.
He settled well back throughout the run before hitting he line with purpose, so that could be a sign of things to come.
He is being respected in betting markets and we’re happy to take the $4.50 available.
Race 2. (13:25) Astern @ Darley Maiden (1100m)
#3 – Head Legislator @ $3.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Head Legislator is getting close to a win after notching three second placings from his last four starts.
The son of Headwater was only 2.3 lengths behind a smart type last time out and he has since won a trial at Gold Coast.
Barrier four is ideal and although his opening odds of $2.90 have drifted, he is well worth putting on top of selections.
Race 3. (14:00) China Horse Club BM72 (1250m)
#6 – Matterhorn @ $2.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Matterhorn is a smart type in the making and he owns two wins from four starts, so he’ll be tough to beat here.
The Kris Lees-trained five-year-old scored a narrow win at Newcastle two back before being defeated as the $1.65 favourite last start. However, he is capable of bouncing back and the betting support is a good sign.
He gets the services of James McDonald and after opening at $2.80, there has been a solid betting move for the second favourite.
Race 4. (14:35) Sky Racing BM64 (1250m)
#2 – Arctic Thunder @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Gary Portelli-trained filly three-year-old is a four-time winner from 11 starts and that statistic shouldn’t be overlooked.
She comes off a solid run in good company at Randwick and that form bodes well for midweek racing at Canterbury.
It’s her first start on the track, but she gets 3kg off her back and punters get value odds worth snapping up. Take the $6 before it shortens on race day.
Race 5. (15:10) Vinery Stud BM72 (1100m)
#9 – Escape Artist @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The three-year-old filly is a two-time winner from eight starts and she looked good when winning at Randwick fresh up.
She didn’t follow it up with much in two subsequent runs, but she hit the line well enough at Warwick Farm last time out.
The daughter of Exceed and Excel meets a tough field, but she has speed and punters get value each-way odds.
Race 6. (15:45) TAB BM72 (1900m)
#6 – Bethencourt @ $4.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Bethencourt owns two placings from his last three starts and although he has been expensive for punters, it could pay to keep the faith.
The four-year-old gelding owns two wins and three placings from eight starts, so he has been right around the mark throughout his career.
Drawing barrier 12 isn’t ideal, but Josh Parr is a confident rider and he could get the job done.
Race 7. (16:20) XXXX BM72 (1550m)
#4 – Wairere Falls @ $4.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Wairere Falls comes off a solid fifth at Rosehill and his form prior included four consecutive placings, so he’s knocking on the door of a big win.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old is a three-time winner in Victoria, so he’s capable and ready to win in Sydney.
His opening odds of $5 have been taken and we’re expecting another tidy effort.
