We have expert betting tips for the card this Wednesday at Canterbury that features six quality betting races.
It’s only a small card at Canterbury, but punters get even betting fields and we have our best value selections available.
Canterbury horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (13:20) Microphone @ Darley Maiden (1250m)
#3 – Santorini Sun @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Santorini Sun did enough on debut when third at Canterbury and she could be a filly worth following in the winter.
The Maher-Eustace-trained daughter of Choisir was only 1.1 lengths behind the winner and despite drifting in the betting markets, she should be well-supported on race day.
She should get a nice drag behind the speed and show a good turn-of-foot in the straight, so put her on top at value odds.
Race 2. (14:00) Vinery Stud Maiden (1250m)
#6 – Minsk Moment @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Chris Waller lines up the two-year-old colt that has shown ability at the trials and punters have to respect that form.
The son of I Am Invincible scored a trial win at Rosehill two back when winning by 1.5 lengths. He followed it up with a trial placing in heavy conditions, so he shouldn’t be worried about the conditions on Wednesday.
Having James McDonald riding off the inside barrier makes him tough to beat.
Race 3. (14:35) Bowermans Furniture Maiden (1250m)
#3 – Electric @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Electric had plenty of betting support on debut and although he was presented to win in the straight, he is a runner worth following.
The son of Kermadec was flat coming around the home bend at Warwick Farm, but he picked up late and that could be a sign of what’s to come.
He closed off nicely and punters haven’t missed him in betting markets. Follow any positive betting moves.
Race 4. (15:10) XXXX BM72 (1900m)
#1 – Onemore Sapphire @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The five-year-old gelding comes off back-to-back placings and he is getting close to posting his sixth career win.
He finished second at Newcastle behind Commander Bell before running second at Canterbury behind Rules Don’t Apply, so the form lines stack up nicely.
After opening at $4.60, his odds have firmed considerably and that is a good sign.
Race 5. (15:45) China Horse Club BM72 (1200m)
#9 – Eight Diamonds @ $2.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Money has come for Eight Diamonds after opening at $3.20 and she could start even shorter on race day.
The three-year-old filly by Sebring scored a fresh up win last campaign before taking on stellar company. She faced the likes of Harmony Rose and Forbidden Love, so this is a sizable drop in class.
Her recent trial placing at Warwick Farm is a good betting guide and we expect her odds to firm to an odds-on quote.
Race 6. (16:20) Tab BM72 (1550m)
#5 – Yukon @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Yukon didn’t fire at Randwick fresh up when running last behind Dream Circle, but dropping to midweek company could do the trick.
The Hawkes-trained son of Vancouver owns two wins and two placings from five starts, so it was the first time he had finished out of the money.
Drawing the inside barrier is ideal and although his form has come on good tracks, he should handle the sting out of the ground.
