Canterbury horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (12:50) Iron Jack Maiden (1250m)
#5 – Miravelle @ $4.40 – Bet Now
Miravelle is on debut for Mark Newnham and she looks a nice type in the making. The two-year-old won a trial by 3.3 lengths and she’s bred to be good.
She’s a daughter of Redoute’s Choice that showed an excellent turn-of-foot when winning that trial. It’s a nice lead-in to this race and we’re expecting a top debut effort.
Watch for any late market push.
Race 2. (13:25) Microphone @ Darley Maiden (1250m)
#6 – Foscolo @ $10 – Bet Now
The two-year-old colt hasn’t been asked to do much in three trials to date. That’s usually the case for Chris Waller-trained juveniles, so don’t read too much into that form.
He has finished close behind some nice types in three trials and the booking of James McDonald is important.
He’s another runner that could attract some bets on race day.
Race 3. (14:00) Yes Yes Yes @ Coolmore BM66 (1250m)
#4 – Papal Warrior @ $5.50 – Bet Now
Papal Warrior scored an overdue win at Canterbury last start and he’s capable of going back-to-back.
The Waller-trained three-year-old won by a narrow margin but he defeated a quality field. It was an impressive effort and he could now start to live up to expectations.
The son of Fastnet Rock is bred to be good and he could win again.
Race 4. (14:35) Ranvet BM72 (1550m)
#12 – Milunka @ $4 – Bet Now
Milunka looked a nice type in the making last season and she could return in fine order. She hasn’t raced for almost a year, but she showed plenty during her first campaign.
Her maiden win came on this track and all but one of her six career starts came at Canterbury. That experience at Canterbury helps and she gets a good run from the draw.
It’s another good ride for James McDonald and she’s in good hands.
Race 5. (15:10) Tab BM64 (1900m)
#8 – Kirwan’s Lane @ $4.40 – Bet Now
Kirwan’s Lane has rattled off three consecutive second placings and he could go one better. The three-year-old gelding won prior to that at Newcastle, so he’s in good form.
He hasn’t yet faced a field of this quality, but with Hugh Bowman in the saddle, he’s in good hands. That bodes well for a good run and punters should get each-way odds.
Race 6. (15:45) Headwater @ Vinery BM70 (1250m)
#4 – Pinvincible @ $3.80 – Bet Now
The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding didn’t fire at Warwick Farm on the heavy surface but he rebounded with a trial win.
He scored by 3.8 lengths at Rosehill and he should be able to recapture his best form. His best would be good enough to win this race and he won his only start at Canterbury.
Adam Hyeronimus gets on well with him and that bodes well.
Race 7. (16:20) Sky Racing Active BM70 (1550m)
#7 – Chocolatier @ $6 – Bet Now
Chocolatier usually fires early in a campaign and that was a good effort for third last time out.
The Jason Dreamer-trained five-year-old is a three-time winner that owns good form at Canterbury. He has placed in all three starts on the track and he could add another solid outing.
Drawing barrier two is ideal and that should ensure a good trip throughout.
