Canterbury horse racing tips
Race 1. (17:15) Schweppes Maiden Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Belieber @ $3.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding ran fourth at both career starts and they came behind some smart types.
He brings in impressive trial form with back-to-back wins at Randwick, including a 2.3-length win at Randwick last start.
He will show good barrier speed from barrier one and be tough to beat.
Race 2. (17:45) Cyren Bar Grill Seafood Maiden (1550m)
#6 – Mr Gee @ $3.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Mr Gee hasn’t done much wrong to date and he could cap off consecutive placings with a win.
The son of All Too Hard got too far back on debut at Hawkesbury and he finished off stoutly behind Savvy Legend at Newcastle.
Punters get each-way odds and he is worth sticking with.
Race 3. (19:15) Urbanista BM72 (1900m)
#4 – Unamerican @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Unamerican has looked good winning his last two starts and be bypassed an easier race for this contest.
That is always a good sign and the Freedman team has a high opinion of this progressive son of Americain.
Drawing wide shouldn’t matter over this distance and he is unbeaten in three starts at the 1900m.
Race 4. (19:45) Jamberoo Action Park BM72 (1200m)
#6 – Deference @ $3.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Deference is getting better with every run this season and there was plenty to like about his fourth at Randwick.
The James Cummings-trained gelding finished only one length behind the winner and he was always going to improve with time.
Barrier 13 is a hindrance, but he goes close with luck.
Race 5. (20:15) Ogalo Sprint BM72 (1100m)
#12 – Najmah @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Najmah couldn’t have been more impressive when winning on debut. The Hawkes-trained filly scored by 3.8 lengths and it won’t be her last win.
She cleared out the field in heavy conditions and we believe racing on a better surface will only strengthen her chances.
54kg is ideal and there is market confidence.
Race 6. (20:45) Featherdale Wildlife Park BM72 (1550m)
#8 – Olympic Legend @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Olympic Legend continued the form from the Les Bridge stable with a win at Randwick last month.
The four-year-old gelding hit the line nicely to score and although facing a wide barrier draw here, he has upside.
Jason Collett has been riding in good form and if he finds cover, expect a tidy effort.
Race 7. (21:15) Kia Fleet Edge BM72 (1250m)
#10 – Phoenix Global @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Brad Widdup-trained runner has plenty of ability and he looks to be ready to show his best after two runs this season.
He finished second at Moonee Valley last start and he is coming off a trial win at Gosford. That came over a good field and if he brings that form to the table, he should go well.
Off the inside draw, expect the $4.20 to shorten.
Race 8. (21:45) Metro BM72 (1200m)
#10 – Deep Crystal @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Deep Crystal has already won twice this season and she could add another win to her record on Friday night.
The Matthew Smith-trained mare is coming off a third placing at Randwick and that form bodes well for this level of racing.
$4.80 is a fair price from bookmakers and she will attract interest on race night.
