We have expert betting tips for the card this Wednesday at Canterbury, which features eight quality betting races.
There are some quality runners in action and punters are starting to see the quality spring types in action midweek.
Canterbury free tips & form
Race 1. (12:50) Sepoy @ Darley BM64 (1250m)
#1 – Memphis Rock @ $6.50 – Bet Now
Lindsay Park lines up the former Melbourne-based runner which ran well for third at Randwick last time out.
The negative is that he’s a three-year-old and has only one win to his name. That came early on during his career but he could get back to that form.
Drawn well in barrier four and seeing James McDonald in the saddle is ideal.
Race 2. (13:25) ANZ Bloodstock News Maiden (1550m)
#3 – Relucent @ $3.40 – Bet Now
Chris Waller trains the improving three-year-old which has been looking good in Victoria to date.
The son of Savabeel finished second at Sandown last start and he was flashing home late. He only narrowly missed by a long neck and he should improve nicely on that.
His breeding suggests that he’ll appreciate any rise in distance and it’s another solid ride for James McDonald.
Race 3. (14:00) Bowermans Furniture BM70 (1900m)
#7 – Waking Moment @ $3.60 – Bet Now
It’s last-chance saloon for Waking Moment and we’re giving her one more chance to impress.
The Waller-trained six-year-old has been just in behind the winners of late and she only needs a touch of confidence to get an overdue win.
Kerrin McEvoy rides from a good barrier draw and with only 55.5kg on her back, she has to show improvement now.
Race 4. (14:35) The Agency Real Estate BM76 (1550m)
#2 – The Bald Eagle @ $4.60 – Bet Now
The Bald Eagle has hit top gear with three wins from his last four starts. That form could see him win another midweek race.
Trained by Team Hawkes, the five-year-old gelding scored a half-length win at Canterbury last start and he’s looking to remain unbeaten on this track from three attempts.
Finished in the money in eight of his 15 starts and that consistency should see him run close once again.
Race 5. (15:10) TAB BM76 (1550m)
#4 – Duchess of Lennox @ $2.90 – Bet Now
Chris Waller lines up the four-year-old mare which wasn’t beaten far when fourth fresh up.
The daughter of Reliable Man was good enough to score consecutive wins last preparation and she looks to have some quality.
Having her first run on this track and with McDonald in the saddle, she should be able to get into a good position and finish off strongly.
Race 6. (15:45) Vinery Stallions BM78 (1250m)
#11 – Romani Girl @ $7 – Bet Now
Romani Girl showed plenty of ability as a youngster and although her form tapered off last campaign, she could bounce back.
The four-year-old placed at her only attempt at Canterbury and with the drop in weight to 53.5kg, that brings her right into contention.
Kerrin McEvoy is riding with a lot of confidence to start the season and she could provide punters with some good value.
Race 7. (16:20) Kia BM78 (1100m)
#12 – Versetto @ $13 – Bet Now
Versetto is a last-start winner for Bjorn Baker which was too good for them at Newcastle.
The five-year-old does rise in grade for this but he drops right down in weight to 54.5kg and Rachel King takes the ride.
That could bring him right into contention and given the form of this stable, we wouldn’t put it past the gelding.
Race 8. (16:55) Canterbury League Club BM70 (1100m)
#14 – Sally’s Day @ $11 – Bet Now
The Gerald Ryan-trained three-year-old was a good winner last time out and she could kick on with it now.
Sally’s Day made up good ground in the straight to score by 1.5 lengths at Hawkesbury and the form out of that meeting should hold up nicely.
She owns a good turn-of-foot and that could show up here.
