Caulfield racing tips

Race 1. (11:55) More Places Handicap (1200m)

#2 – Millennium Blade @ $6.00

Millennium Blade was scratched from an easier race on Wednesday, which is a good sign.

The two-year-old colt didn’t lose many admirers when running a close third on debut at Caulfield, so he has track experience.

Given the good draw, we’re happy to include him in picks.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (12:25) Rod Fenwick BM78 (1200m)

#9 – Illative @ $5.00

Talent is with Illative, who ran second fresh up at Sandown before finishing fifth at Morphettville last time out.

The four-year-old mare by I Am Invincible has yet to fire at Caulfield, but she’s far too good to leave out of calculations at the odds.

Look for her to settle back and come with a big late run.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (13:00) Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Big Swinger @ $2.50

Big Swinger was backed and beaten when running fifth behind Enriched at Randwick, and that form holds up well in Melbourne.

The three-year-old is a slick customer with three wins from five starts, and jumping from barrier two should give him every chance in the run.

Take the $2.50 odds before more money comes for him.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 4. (13:35) Selangor Turf Club BM70 (1400m)

#11 – Sound It Out @ $7.50

Sound It Out owns two wins from four starts, and although those wins came at Yarra Valley and Kyneton, she can measure up to this field.

The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Galileo is bred to be better than average, and she’s also bred to enjoy longer distances.

Punters get $7.50 odds, so they’re worth taking.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (14:10) Rod Griffiths BM78 (1600m)

#2 – Madiyya @ $2.50

Winning form is with Madiyya, who scored at Sale before winning at Caulfield last time out by 1.3 lengths.

The Hayes-trained runner looks to have a nice future, and it’s good to see her having another start as a three-year-old filly.

She needs luck from out wide, but she has time to find cover over the mile.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (14:45) JRA BM100 (1600m)

#7 – Verdad @ $5.00

Verdad is a two-time winner from his last three starts, and although he’s only a three-time winner overall, he should have won many more.

He makes his own luck in front, and riding the speed at Caulfield on Saturday could be ideal, especially in a field with many back markers.

He’s over the odds, so include him as a value bet.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 7. (15:20) Ian Miller BM84 (2000m)

#8 – Sunsets @ $16.00

It could pay to look past the form of Sunsets, who has been disappointing, but he’s better than that.

The four-year-old son of Dundeel is a two-time winner, with one of those wins coming at Caulfield, and getting the inside draw is ideal.

We’re happy to take the risk at the big odds.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 8. (16:00) Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m)

#10 – Cleo Cat @ $5.50

Cleo Cat keeps winning races after posting seven wins from eight starts, and she’s not getting much respect in betting markets.

This is a tough field, but the four-year-old mare won by 1.8 lengths in Adelaide last start, so she’s an adaptable type at this level.

Carrying 54kg should make her tough to beat.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 9. (16:35) Darren Gauci BM84 (1200m)

#16 – Dirty Grin @ $5.00

Boasting winning form is Dirty Grin, who is already a three-time winner this preparation from four starts.

The five-year-old gelding by Zacinto drops to 52.5kg with the 3kg claimer, and that should make him tough to beat on Saturday.

Take the each-way odds before money comes for him.

Stake: 1.5 Units
