Caulfield horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:25) Neds Handicap (1200m)

#4 – Hunnam @ $3.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Hunnam had his chance to win at Caulfield last week but we’re prepared to give him another chance.

The Hawkes-trained two-year-old hasn’t had much luck throughout his career, but we like the way he hit the line last time out.

Barrier two is ideal and with fitness on his side, he could be tough to beat.

Race 2. (13:00) Neds Filter Form Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Dollar For Dollar @ $3.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Dollar For Dollar comes off a handy third placing behind Ancestry at The Valley and there is little wrong with that form.

The eight-year-old isn’t getting any younger but he is smart at best and having Group 1-winning form is better than most in this field.

He has yet to win at Caulfield but he gets his best chance here.

Race 3. (13:35) Neds Same Race Multi BM78 (1100m)

#10 – Wilmot Pass @ $4.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Wilmot Pass has class on his side and after two moderate runs this preparation, he should be ready to show his best.

The Freedman-trained gelding owns a placing on this track and although only a three-time winner, he always runs good sectionals.

Barrier 10 will force him back, so watch for him to sprout wings late.

Race 4. (14:10) Catanach’s Jewellers BM84 (1100m)

#9 – Garvoc @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Garvoc scored a good win fresh up and although beaten in three subsequent runs, punters should lack confidence.

The four-year-old mare comes into this with consecutive second placings and the form stacks up nicely out of those races.

54kg on her back is ideal and having a strong rider in the saddle bodes well.

Race 5. (14:50) Hyland’s Race Colours Handicap (1400m)

#1 – Annavisto @ $2.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Annavisto showed her class when winning at Bendigo last start and it came easily by 1.8 lengths.

It was a smart outing and although she rises in weight for this contest, she gets senior rider Mark Zahra in the saddle.

She looks like a strong chance of winning three of her last four races.

Race 6. (15:35) Lamaro’s Galilee Series Final (2400m)

#1 – Liqueuro @ $1.95 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Liqueuro continues to win and the three-year-old is the firm favourite to repeat on Saturday.

The son of Fiorente comes off a good win at Bendigo where he defeated Australian Derby runner Explosive Jack.

It’s good form going forward and his price should stay at an odds-on level come race day.

Race 7. (16:15) MRC Chairman’s Club Handicap (2400m)

#1 – Lord Belvedere @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Maher/Eustace-trained seven-year-old is an eight-time winner that looks ready to get back to his best.

He comes off a disappointing run for seventh fresh up, but he typically improves with a run under his belt.

$6 is a fair price from bookmakers and he should run close.

Race 8. (16:50) The Promenade BM84 (2000m)

#2 – Grand Promenade @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet

We couldn’t not back Grand Promenade in The Promenade. The five-year-old went close at Mornington and although beaten by Mohican Heights, he could overturn that result.

He is a four-time winner from 11 starts and punters are getting value odds at the $4. Those odds could shorten on race day, so take the value available.

Race 9. (17:25) Tile Importer Handicap (1600m)

#5 – Platoon @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Platoon comes off a second placing behind Ironclad at Bendigo and that form should stack up for time to come.

The five-year-old gelding has been facing tough opposition this season and he should appreciate the drop in class on Saturday.

Barrier two is ideal and he should get a dream run in transit.
