Caulfield horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:25) Robert Taranto Handicap (1100m)
#2 – Bella Nipotina – Bet Now
Two-year-old filly Bella Nipotina has been unlucky not to win, but she gets her chance now.
The Lindsay Park-trained runner has taken on some slick fields to date, and this is no different. However, her effort to run second at Bendigo last Saturday was full of merit.
Drawing barrier 11 isn’t ideal but we’re expecting a tidy effort.
Race 2. (13:00) Geoff Murphy Handicap (2406m)
#9 – Skelm – Bet Now
Skelm is a speedy customer that owns four wins and seven placings from 23 starts. He was last seen running third at Mornington behind Aktau, which is brilliant form.
He was good enough to score back-to-back wins at Sandown and Caulfield over the summer, so he must be respected in this class.
Carrying 56kg is ideal and John Allen is a good jockey to have riding.
Race 3. (13:55) Jack Elliott BM78 (1400m)
#1 – Buffalo River – Bet Now
It’s not going to be easy for Buffalo River with the big weight, but he has the class edge over this field.
An imported runner for Mike Moroney, the four-year-old won three consecutive races to kick off his Australian career.
He didn’t fire at Randwick last start but going this way around is preferred. Allow him another chance to shine.
Race 4. (14:15) Thomas North Handicap (1400m)
#3 – Hint of Mint – Bet Now
Andrew Noblet trains the capable filly, which owns three wins from six starts. The daughter of Delago Deluxe ran second at Morphettville last start, which is a good guide for this race.
Her most recent win came at Pakenham where she controlled the field as the odds-on favourite. The odds should be better here and only the wide draw is a concern.
Punters should expect an each-way quote from bookmakers.
Race 5. (14:55) Salangor Turf Club Handicap (1100m)
#1 – Excess Funds – Bet Now
Drawing barrier 13 isn’t ideal but he has the ability to drop back and come with a barnstorming run.
He showed his turn-of-foot when scoring at Caulfield last time out, against a field much better than what he faces here.
The son of Rubick won’t get everything in his favour but he’s a classy type.
Race 6. (15:35) Lamaro’s Hotel Handicap (1000m)
#6 – Diamond Effort – Bet Now
Diamond Effort is shooting for her fourth consecutive win after scored three quality victories.
The Clinton McDonald-trained mare won by four lengths at Caulfield, 1.8 lengths at Flemington, and a narrow win last start at Mornington.
The professional type has found a new lease on life this season and we wouldn’t be backing against her at the moment.
Race 7. (16:15) Neds Handicap (1600m)
#8 – Russian Camelot – Bet Now
Russian Camelot was a tragedy beat last start after missing the jump horribly and flashing home late for fourth.
The three-year-old colt was heavily-backed to win and although punters did their dough, it’s a good chance to get some back.
If he behaves himself, expect to see the son of Camelot be too good for this field.
Race 8. (16:55) Neds Same Race Multi BM90 (1600m)
#6 – Black Sail – Bet Now
Black Sail has been around some nice types throughout his career and he should improve on his most recent effort.
The five-year-old owns four wins from 26 starts, including an additional nine placings. He was a winner two back at Geelong, and he’s going to get every chance from barrier two.
Each-way odds should be offered by bookmakers.
Race 9. (17:30) Remember Roy Higgins BM90 (2000m)
#10 – Yourdeel – Bet Now
Yourdeel won his first three races in New Zealand and it’s about time he showed something in Australia.
To his credit, he ran behind the likes of Alligator Blood, Dalasan, Super Seth, and Spend. This field is there for the taking and if he’s anywhere near his best, he should go close.
Generous odds should be on offer.
