Caulfield horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:10) Neds BM84 (1700m)
#1 – Sovereign Award – Bet Now
Sovereign Award is running for her third consecutive win following victories at Sale and Moonee Valley.
The five-year-old is a winner of five from 11 starts overall and she gets the services of Damien Oliver in the saddle again.
She has more upside and ability than most in this field so respect her chances.
Race 2. (12:45) Super Box Race Day Hamper BM78 (1000m)
#8 – Propelle – Bet Now
We are giving Propelle one more chance following a tidy effort for second at Moonee Valley. The five-year-old ran behind Brooklyn Hustle after getting too far off the pace.
It was a good run and she might be able to settle closer to the pace from an inside barrier. There isn’t much speed in this race and her turn-of-foot could be used from a more forward position.
Look for each-way odds from bookmakers.
Race 3. (13:20) Neds Bet Back Handicap (1100m)
#4 – She’s A Thief – Bet Now
She’s A Thief stole the race at Caulfield last time out and she could repeat the dose this time around.
The Mike Moroney-trained mare won by 2.3 lengths after leading and kicking away on the turn. It was a professional effort and it was her second win of the preparation.
She is facing a tough field on this occasion but she represents value.
Race 4. (14:00) Ive Print Handicap (1600m)
#2 – Plein Ciel – Bet Now
Plein Ciel scored an overdue win at Moonee Valley two starts back and he could get back to winning form here.
The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding finished fourth at Flemington last start behind Sircconi and the form to come out of that race has stacked up.
There are some nice types in this race but many of them need more distance, so Plein Ciel looks ideally suited.
Race 5. (14:40) Neds Vain Stakes (1100m)
#3 – Rulership – Bet Now
Rulership is a three-year-old colt that made a good impression when winning on debut before facing tough company.
The son of I Am Invincible took on the likes of Hanseatic, Tagaloa, and Doubtland, so we’re prepared to give him a chance here.
Betting will indicate his chances but he should attract attention.
Race 6. (15:20) Quezette Stakes (1100m)
#3 – Parlophone – Bet Now
Parlophone is coming off an impressive three-length win at Morphettville and she looks to have a fair amount of ability.
The three-year-old also scored a narrow win at Sandown over subsequent winner Peggy Selene, so there are good form guides throughout.
It is a hot field for the Quezette Stakes but punters should be giving her a chance.
Race 7. (16:00) Evergreen Turf Regal Roller Stakes (1200m)
#3 – Begood Toya Mother – Bet Now
Class is with Begood Toya Mother, which didn’t fire last campaign but those runs came in Group 1 company.
Daniel Bowman lines up the six-year-old that has won eight from 16 starts and he looks ready to return to the winners’ enclosure.
He goes well fresh and we’re expecting to see the real Begood Toya Mother on Saturday.
Race 8. (16:35) P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m)
#8 – Mystic Journey @ $4 – Bet Now
Mystic Journey heads a quality field for the feature race and she can turn around her form from last autumn.
The five-year-old is a winner of 11 from 18 starts and despite her best form dipping a touch earlier this year, she is all class when right.
She is a three-time winner in a fresh state and we’re expecting a top effort.
Race 9. (17:10) Hyland Race Colours BM84 (1400m)
#4 – Showmanship – Bet Now
Showmanship keeps on winning after posting four consecutive wins. The Williams-trained gelding has won five of his six starts, which is a nice way to start a career.
He was too good for his opposition at Belmont last start and although Victorian racing presents a harder challenge, he looks up to it.
Expect punters to have a sizable go on this runner in the final race of the day.
