We have expert betting tips for the card this Wednesday at Caulfield that features eight quality betting races.
It’s Thousand Guineas Day at Caulfield and we have our best bets available.
Caulfield horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (13:25) Thoroughbred Breeders BM70 (1600m)
#1 – Rhinoceros – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kiwi runner looked good when winning at Moonee Valley last start, so we think the three-year-old can rise through the grades.
He defeated Capital Legend by just under a length, and that form looks good for the opening race on Wednesday.
Punters will get a good guide from markets, but he should have his supporters.
Race 2. (14:00) Neds Coongy Cup (2000m)
#3 – Floating Artist @ $1.85 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Floating Artist is a quality stayer with three consecutive wins to his name. The former European won at Moonee Valley, Flemington and Sandown, so he’s versatile.
The six-year-old son of Nathaniel was too classy for a smart field at Sandown last start, scoring by 2.5 lengths with ease.
We’re not surprised by the short odds available, and he could start shorter.
Race 3. (14:35) Nick Johnstone Estate BM78 (2000m)
#4 – Mankayan – Bet @ Sportsbet
Luck hasn’t gone the way of Mankayan since arriving in Australia, but the Maher/Eustace-trained gelding looks well-placed here.
He was hitting the line hard at Flemington three fresh up before going to Kembla Grange and not being suited by the ride or conditions.
Returning to Melbourne should help and we’re sticking with him until he gets a win.
Race 4. (15:10) Beck Probuild BM84 (2400m)
#2 – Smokin’ Romans – Bet @ Sportsbet
Smokin’ Romans has rattled off three consecutive wins and he looks like a nice stayer in the making.
The five-year-old kicked off his winning streak at Sandown with a 1.3-length win before adding wins at Moonee Valley by over two lengths.
61kg isn’t easy to carry over 2400m, but we wouldn’t be betting against him.
Race 5. (15:45) Hyland Race Colours BM84 (1400m)
#9 – Frankie Pinot – Bet @ Sportsbet
Frankie Pinot has finished out of the money in only two of his 12 career starts, which is a record we can’t overlook.
The five-year-old gelding by Your Song owns four wins and five second placings, so he’s always around the mark and his second placing last start was tough.
His best form comes over this distance and we would be surprised if he wasn’t fighting out the finish.
Race 6. (16:25) Catanach’s Blue Sapphire (1200m)
#1 – Profiteer @ $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Profiteer will find this easier than Group 1 level last start, so we’re going to forgive his effort at Moonee Valley.
The speedster went too hard in front behind Wild Ruler and was left a shot duck over the concluding stages. Despite the defeat, he should enjoy dropping back to this company.
Barrier three is ideal and he should have little problem finding the front. $2.80 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Race 8. (17:45) Catanach’s Ladies’ Day Vase (1600m)
#9 – Sirileo Miss @ $2.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Symon Wilde-trained four-year-old is searching for three consecutive wins after scoring at Sandown this preparation.
She was good enough to beat Frankie Pinot by just under a length last time out, and we could see that form franked earlier on the card.
Her form lines read well, and with four wins and three placings from eight starts, she has yet to do anything wrong. Take the odds available, which are likely to shorten on race day.
