Caulfield Racing Tips for Sunday, September 27th 2026

The Sunday meeting at Caulfield is one of our favourites of the year, and it includes the Group 1 Manikato Stakes. Held at Caulfield due to renovations at The Valley, the meeting has nine races, and there are stakes races littered throughout the day. Sunday racing doesn’t get much better than this!

Race 1. (12:45) Ladbrokes Brian Kruger Handicap (1100m)

#5 - Tales of Time @ $2.70

Shooting for three consecutive wins is Tales of Time, who won at Werribee before scoring a good win at Sandown last time out.

The three-year-old colt by Pinatubo won by a length against a tidy field last start, and we liked the way he hit the line.

Barrier four is ideal, and the $2.70 odds are fair from bookies.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (13:15) Jim Moloney Stakes (1440m)

#4 - Pretty Baby @ $1.90

We labeled Pretty Baby as a rising star before she won last time out, and that victory didn’t change our opinion.

The three-year-old filly put them to bed early in the straight to win by 3.8 lengths, and although rising in class, she can handle it.

She has a classic running action, and we think she can win a big race this spring.

Race 3. (13:50) Drummond Golf JRA Cup (2000m)

#3 - Detonator Jack @ $7.00

Ciaron Maher lines up Detonator Jack, who is threatening to win another race after back-to-back placings at Caulfield.

The eight-year-old has enough experience to handle this field, and he can turn the tables on Darkbonee, who didn’t fire last time out.

He has yet to win at Caulfield, but there isn’t much over this field.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (14:25) Dominant Scarborough Stakes (1200m)

#11 - Simply Steffi @ $34.00

Our horse racing picks are going for a huge upset in this race with Simply Steffi, who had no favours at Sandown last time out.

She had no room to move in the straight, and she went to the line hard held by Caitlin Hollowood, and we’re happy to see Ben Melham take over the riding duties.

She’s taking on stakes-level types, but at $34, she is worth including as a value bet.

Race 5. (15:00) Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes (1600m)

#5 - Pride of Jenni @ $2.00

Pride of Jenni is back for another spring carnival, and she is the two-time defending champion of the Feehan Stakes.

She’s not always the best bet fresh up, with only two wins from 11 starts, but she will inject speed into this race, and she could clear out by 5-6 lengths.

They’ll do well to catch her around Caulfield, so she’s the top pick.

Race 6. (15:30) MSC Signs Stutt Stakes (1600m)

#1 - Diameter @ $3.80

We’re not sure if Diameter would have beaten Lara Antipova last start, but he was never given the chance to win.

The Chris Waller-trained colt had no luck in the straight when getting cut out of gaps, and we like the way he found the line under his own steam.

James McDonald jumps in the saddle, and he could bounce back with a big win.

Race 7. (16:05) Ladbrokes Stocks Stakes (1600m)

#5 - Changing Colours @ $2.70

Changing Colours has been one of our favourite horses to bet on this season, and after posting three straight wins, we’re not jumping off.

The six-year-old mare by The Autumn Sun won at Caulfield two back before winning at Sandown last start, which are good form guides.

55kg with Blake Shinn riding adds to her appeal, and she’s a good bet again.

Race 9. (17:25) Sportsbet Testa Rossa Stakes (1440m)

War Machine didn’t do much right last week, but that came at Group 1 level, and he could bounce back against this company.

The Group 1 winner has class on his side, and he just needs a bit of confidence to start winning races again, and that confidence could come on Sunday.

Barrier 12 isn’t ideal, but he’ll finish well with a drag into the race.

Stake: 1 Unit
