2024 Challenge Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Private Eye (Best Bet – $2.25)
Private Eye pushed Imperatriz close last time out, which is the best form guide for the Challenge Stakes.
He is one of the best sprinters in the land, and he’s a three-time winner at Randwick, which is a great addition to his form.
His odds are as low as we would take, but he’s our top pick.
(2) Mazu ($8.50)
Mazu hasn’t been at his best for some time now, and we’re not about to take $8.50.
We need to see sharp improvement to include him in our selections, but heavy race day support would be a good sign.
(3) Remarque (Best Each Way – $4.00)
Remarque is a different horse since being gelded, and he’s now a premier sprinter.
The five-year-old son of Snitzel is a five-time winner from 15 starts, including fresh up at Randwick last prep.
He ran fourth in this race last year, but he should improve on that effort.
(4) Aft Cabin ($4.80)
We prefer backing Aft Cabin on a wet track, and he might not get conditions to suit on Saturday.
The James Cummings-trained son of Astern is a four-time winner from 10 starts, so he’s classy. However, we’re happy to leave him out of our top selections.
He’s good enough to go into first four calculations.
(5) Zapateo ($26.00)
That was a handy third at Caulfield fresh up, but that’s a step below this level of racing.
She’s at $26 for a reason, so we’re leaving him out.
(6) Passive Aggressive (Best Roughie – $8.00)
Natural talent is with Passive Aggressive, who is unbeaten in two starts fresh up.
She’s not always the most reliable type, as she showed in her last two starts. However, the spell should have helped.
We’re happy with the $8 odds available.
(7) How’s the Serenity ($126.00)
She is a nine-time winner, but she is nowhere near up to this level of racing.
Good on connections for giving it a go, but that’s where it ends.
