Champagne Stakes Tips for Trifecta

Punters should have five runners on their ticket for the Champagne Stakes trifecta. We recommend taking a boxed percentage trifecta. Spend what you want, and the payouts can be massive.

  • Campione D’Italia
  • Miss Chanel
  • Diameter
  • Fireball
  • Southend

Champagne Stakes First-Four Tips

We have included seven runners for our Champagne Stakes first-four. Boxing all seven selections for a percentage can still result in a huge payout, and you spend what you want.

  • Campione D’Italia
  • Miss Chanel
  • Diameter
  • Fireball
  • Southend
  • Zambales
  • Salann

Champagne Stakes Form Guide & Tips

1. Campione D’Italia (Best Bet - $2.90)

His win in the Sires’ Produce is the best form guide for the Champagne, and rising to the mile should hold no fears.

He is a nicely bred type with plenty of upside, and we predict the Chris Waller/James McDonald Group 1 run to continue.

$2.90 is about where we priced him, so he is worth backing.

2. Fireball ($6.50)

Fireball is a trifecta and first four chance based on his Sires’ run for third. It was another eye-catching performance, and drawing close to the rails is a bonus.

He’s not far off a big win, and we wouldn’t be shocked if it came on Saturday, so include him in picks at each-way odds.

3. Zambales ($11.00)

He is suited to the mile more than many runners in this race, so we’re including him in first four picks. However, his lack of wins is a concern.

Breeding suggests his best form will come over 1600-2000m, and based on that, we’re happy to put him in the mix.

4. Southend ($8.00)

A tough winner at Group 3 level last start, and it was only his second career start. He could have a bright future, and he has been backed to win.

He is one of the more intriguing runners in the Champagne Stakes, and on pure talent, he can’t be left out of calculations.

5. Diameter (Best Roughie - $21.00)

We loved the way he knuckled down to win from in front last week, and if he has come through that run well, he could back it up with another.

The two-year-old colt by Brazen Beau is bred to enjoy the mile, and $21 for a runner who has shown fighting qualities is a good price from bookmakers.

6. Persian Wonder ($20.00)

Second behind Southend last time out, but he would need to find a few lengths on that effort. We can’t include him in our picks based on the strength on this field.

7. Don’t Look Back ($201.00)

Big odds are available for Don’t Look Back, who comes off a third placing behind Diameter. He is another runner who will need to improve to beat a harder field.

8. Nomadic ($61.00)

His sectionals were good last time out when turning his form around with a placing, but as the odds suggest, he could struggle with the rise in class.

9. Am I Dreaming ($71.00)

He has a good win in him soon, and he didn’t have much luck in running last start. This is a different class of racing, which is why we’re leaving him out, but a solid run is expected.

10. Miss Chanel (Best Each Way - $4.80)

She was only beaten on the line in the Sire’s Produce by Campione D’Italia. That’s the best form guide for this race, and this would be a great way to notch her first win.

She owns five placings from six starts with over $470,000 in the bank, so she is making money without winning. If she repeats her best form, she should go close.

11. Grinzinger Heart ($17.00)

She gripped on to beat Zambales at Flemington last time out. It was a tough effort, but we’re not sure where to place her.

Craig Williams riding is a positive, so it could pay to watch late betting moves.

12. Salann ($16.00)

Her run last week for second had plenty of merit from back in the field, but she won’t find this any easier.

Punters should expect her to settle closer from the inside draw, so she is a first four chance if there’s room for another runner.

13. Sumac ($41.00)

No luck last week, so it’s tough to know what she will produce on Saturday. We’re happy to watch her go around and wait for a better opportunity.
