Champions & Chater Cup Runner-By-Runner Guide
He is one of the best thoroughbreds in the world, and we can’t see him being beaten. He’s back on another long winning streak, and although the Japanese runners have come to beat him, he should be too tough.
Punters don’t get massive odds at $1.15, but he’s a solid multi bet addition at those odds.
We’re not leaving Deep Monster out of our Hong Kong picks, but we don’t rate his last start win as highly as betting markets.
Japanese form hasn’t stacked up as well as usual this season, but he’s good enough to run in the first three, so we’re not leaving him out. We just think the $7 odds are far too short.
Cap Ferrat lunged at the line last start when running second behind My Wish, which should be a tidy enough form guide for this race.
The former Australian won his most recent race in March last year, but despite not owning any recent winning form, he should run well.
Include him in picks at the double-figure odds.
Another Japanese runner who comes off a tidy placing, but he wasn’t able to find much in his most recent clash against Romantic Warrior.
He finished fifth in the Hong Kong Cup, and although there was more depth to that field, a similar result could be on the cards.
Numbers is still learning what the racing caper is all about, but the four-year-old could run a career-best effort on Sunday.
He looked good winning age-group races earlier this season before some things didn’t go his way in subsequent runs.
At $29, he’s worth including in first fours.
His recent form includes two placings, but they came against easier fields. This should be too hard for him.
He isn’t running well enough to be included in picks. He’s looking for something much easier than Group 1 level.
There is nothing wrong with his form, but he’s more suited to Group 3 racing. We would prefer to back him in something much easier.
There has been specking for Romantic Thor, but that could be the Zac Purton factor. He would need to find a few lengths to go close.
