Champions & Chater Cup Form Guide & Tips
(1) Rebel’s Romance (Best Bet – $1.80)
He comes off wins in the Wild Flower Stakes and Dubai Sheema Classic, so he deserves to be favourite for this race.
The six-year-old gelding is an 11-time winner from 17 starts, and although he’s yet to race at Sha Tin, he’s the class runner of this field.
Pick him to win at the short odds.
(2) Straight Arron (Best Roughie – $15.00)
He didn’t fire against similar opposition last start, but we’re happy to give him another chance at the big odds.
His best form is good enough to compete at the top level, and getting barrier two could see his fortunes turn around.
Take the generous odds.
(3) Five G Patch ($8.00)
His odds are shorter than we expected, but he ran well for second behind La City Blanche in the Queen Mother Memorial.
We’re not sure if that’s the best form guide for this race, but it’s hard to overlook betting markets.
He’s good enough to include as a first-four pick.
(4) Russian Emperor ($9.00)
We haven’t seen the best of Russian Emperor since he won this race last year.
The defending champion has been struggling to beat runners home, which is a massive concern.
The odds are too short for our liking, but he’s a quality type when his mind is on the job.
(5) La City Blanche ($9.00)
He turned his form around in a big way when scoring at Sha Tin as a $22.00 chance.
We can’t see that form continuing in the Champions & Chater Cup, so we’re prepared to overlook his chances.
He could also get posted a touch wide from the draw as well.
(6) Senor Toba ($34.00)
He finished 31.8 lengths behind the winner last start, hence the big odds.
We can’t see him improving enough to turn that form around.
(7) Massive Sovereign (Best Each Way – $6.00)
His first test in Group 1 company didn’t go to plan when finishing eighth behind Romantic Warrior.
However, that followed three consecutive wins, including a win over Galaxy Patch in the Hong Kong Derby.
That form is good enough to see him score a minor upset at $6.00.
(8) Moments in Time ($26.00)
He won consecutive races before finishing fourth last start. Needs to improve to beat this field.
