2024 Champions Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) Golden Sixty (Best Bet – $2.00)
Golden Sixty is the best thoroughbred in Hong Kong and his record is nearly flawless.
The eight-year-old owns an incredible 26 wins from 30 starts, and although he has been sparingly raced lately, he keeps winning.
Getting $2.00 is fair, as he’s the best horse in the race.
(2) Voyage Bubble ($9.00)
A danger to the favourite on his day, but he needs to rebound from a poor effort last time out.
Based on his previous form and having James McDonald riding, we’re happy to include him in first four picks.
(3) Beauty Eternal (Best Each Way – $9.00)
Second behind Beauty Joy last time out as a $2.10 chance, but he could turn the tables on that effort.
The five-year-old is a quality type at his best, including eight wins and six placings from 16 starts. That record is tough to overlook, and Zac Purton rides.
(4) Beauty Joy ($9.00)
He comes off a win in the Chairman’s Trophy when beating Beauty Eternal.
It’s a solid form guide, so we’re not leaving him out of first four picks, despite facing a harder field here.
(5) Obamburumai ($13.00)
The Japanese runner is at shorter odds than expected following a poor effort at Randwick in the Doncaster Mile.
However, that came on heavy ground, and he’s better suited to conditions in Hong Kong, but he still needs to improve.
(6) Brave Emperor ($21.00)
The European runner has good form, but we don’t think it’s good enough to win the Champions Mile.
It’s a level below the best in Europe, so he could struggle to keep up with the hot tempo.
(7) Champagne Color ($67.00)
He’s not running well enough. Poor efforts recently and we can’t see that form turning around suddenly.
(8) Elton Barows ($17.00)
A Japanese runner with ability, but he was only seventh at Group 2 level last time out.
There has been solid betting support for him, but he’s another runner that needs to improve to beat the favourite.
(9) Galaxy Patch ($9.00)
Knocking on the door after consecutive placings behind California Spangle and Massive Sovereign.
Nothing wrong with that form, and getting the inside draw could be enough to see him figure in the finish.
(10) Red Lion (Best Roughie – $15.00)
Third behind California Spangle and Beauty Joy. Those races are good form guides, and punters get value odds.
He’s good enough to figure in the finish and boost payouts.
(11) Taj Dragon ($26.00)
He looked good earlier this preparation when winning consecutive races.
Only fair since, so we’re happy to leave him out.
