Cranbourne horse racing tips

Race 1. (18:30) Ivan’s Pies 3YO Maiden (1000m)

#4 – Merlin’s Charm @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Wendy Kelly lines up the three-year-old filly that looked good running second at the trials at Cranbourne.

The daughter of Toronado is a well-related type that doesn’t meet an overly tough maiden field and she should be competitive.

We are not surprised by the short odds available.

Race 2. (19:00) Core Protective Group Maiden (1000m)

#5 – Heir Apparent @ $3.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Heir Apparent is a $210,000 purchase that scored an easy jumpout victory at Flemington and that form bodes well.

The Danny O’Brien-trained son of Cable Bay is a half to Black Caviar and he could be a well-named type on Friday.

Watch for a market lead and the early support is a good sign.

Race 3. (19:30) Drinking Driving Apart Maiden (1400m)

#2 – Sir Loft @ $9 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Sir Loft owns only two placings from 12 starts but he has the ability to beat this field on his day.

The four-year-old son of Burgundy comes off a seventh at Pakenham and having that experience on this track is ideal.

$9 is a fair price from bookmakers and he represents value on Friday night.

Race 4. (20:00) Dirt Rock Civil Maiden (1200m)

#4 – McIlroy @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

McIlroy tees off after a trial placing at Geelong and there is plenty of money coming for the three-year-old on debut.

The son of Toronado opened at $3 and has been steadily backed throughout the week, which is a good sign for punters.

Jamie Kah takes the ride and he has plenty of upside.

Race 5. (20:30) Tab Long May We Play BM64 (1000m)

#5 – Winsum @ $2 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Winsum did the job nicely fresh up when scoring at Cranbourne by two lengths and he followed it up with a second placing at Caulfield.

Having city-class form is ideal and dropping back to this level of racing is ideal. He wasn’t far behind a smart type last start and we’re not surprised by the weight of money.

The son of Wandjina showed good pace throughout the race and that bodes well for Friday’s race.

Race 6. (21:00) Mercedes-Benz Mornington BM64 (1500m)

#7 – Quail Hollow @ $8 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Coming off a win at Warrnambool is Quail Hollow, which scored by 1.8 lengths and he’s good enough to kick on with it.

The four-year-old son of Toronado now owns two wins from 11 starts and although a touch inconsistent, he has plenty of upside after the win.

$8 is well worth taking and he represents value.

Race 7. (21:30) Settlers Run Gcc BM64 (2025m)

#2 – Blue Ocean @ $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Phillip Stokes lines up the four-year-old gelding that is steadily getting back to his best after finishing second at Sandown.

The son of Ocean Park has improved with every run this preparation and his best form would be good enough to take down this field.

$2.40 is a fair price for the favourite and rising in distance holds no fears.

Race 8. (22:00) O’Brien Real Estate BM64 (1300m)

#2 – Ruler By Choice @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The McEvoy-trained four-year-old owns three wins and three placings from 10 starts, which is a smart record to date.

She comes off a second placing at Sandown where she was only a length behind Knowles. It was a solid effort and she was only run down close to the line.

We are not surprised by the weight of money coming for her with bookmakers.
