2018 Doomben 10,000 Form Guide & Tips
Redzel (Best Bet – $2.20) – BET NOW
The 2017 Everest winner which was beaten by Trapeze Artist last start but the three-year-old had the pull in the weights.
Redzel is a classy sprinter which has won 12 of his 24 starts to date and he won his only other start at Doomben, which is always a positive.
The five-year-old son of Snitzel has drifted in the betting a touch which is concerning, but we’re sticking with the class factor.
Impending (Best Roughie – $11) – BET NOW
It looked as though Impending wasn’t going to win last start but the James Cummings-trained runner sprinted late.
That was a strong fresh-up win from the quality son of Lonhro and although he’s not best suited over this distance, he could surprise a few in this.
$11 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Le Romain ($13) – BET NOW
That was the real Le Romain last time out when running Trapeze Artist close in the T.J. Smith Stakes last start.
Returning to form at the Group 1 level was key for the Kris Lees-trained runner which had seemingly lost his confidence.
It’s back now and he only needs some luck from out wide to figure in the finish.
Care to Think ($14) – BET NOW
It’s tough to overlook a horse with such good form but we’re not sure he’s up to Group 1 level.
The Matthew Dunn-trained gelding is a two-time winner over 1200m but he has looked better over longer distances of late and he has yet to take on this level of opposition.
Most Important ($31) – BET NOW
Solid effort behind Impending last start at Doomben and he’s a past winner second up, but this is too tough for his liking.
Would have been considered with a lighter weight.
Spieth ($23) – BET NOW
Hasn’t been living up to his namesake of late and it’s tough to see a form reversal fresh up.
Recent trial behind English and Redzel was solid enough to recommend but he shouldn’t be threatening for the win.
Monsieur Gustave ($61) – BET NOW
Knows how to win but he doesn’t have the break-neck speed to take this out.
The odds are spot on.
Burning Passion ($35) – BET NOW
Battled out a tough win at Randwick last start when beating Oxford Poet.
That form isn’t likely to stack up well at Group 1 level and he would need some things to go his way to figure in the finish.
Thronum ($20) – BET NOW
Owns some serious early pace and that always makes him a chance.
The five-time winner is just a touch below the best sprinters in Australia, which he faces here, and a top four finish would be considered a good result.
The Mission ($51) – BET NOW
Ran on well enough in the All Aged Stakes last start but we’re getting sick of saying that he should be tried in something easier.
He needs a confidence boost and being beaten every start at Group 1 level isn’t going to help with that.
In Her Time (Best Each Way – $3.70) – BET NOW
Quality mare which has won eight of her 19 starts and she couldn’t have been any more impressive at the trials recently.
The Ben Smith-trained five-year-old scored by 4.8 lengths at Newcastle to be primed for this and she had no luck in behind Trapeze Artist in the T.J. Smith.
Needs speed on up front but is likely to get it and it could draw away from the field with Redzel.
English ($15) – BET NOW
Has forgotten how to win and that’s the big concern.
Scored a trial win over Redzel and she just needs to start showing that form on race day, but she’s a blow-out chance.
Houtzen ($26) – BET NOW
Owns some serious pace but is not suited by the wide draw.
Enigmatic type which could pull off the surprise result and she’s a first-four chance.
