Doomben 10,000 Form Guide & Tips

1. Jimmysstar ($3.50)

Bet Now

He’s a quality sprinter, but he will get back in the run. Dropping from 1400m to 1200m isn’t ideal, and although we’re not leaving him out, the odds are too short given his racing pattern.

2. Private Eye ($6.00)

Bet Now

An adaptable type who used to settle back and flash home, but he can settle handy to the speed and kick strongly.

Drawn perfectly, which has seen his odds firm, and we’re not leaving him out.

3. Another Wil ($19.00)

Bet Now

Didn’t fire in two runs last prep, so we’re not sure how forward he is. He will need a few more runs this season to show something.

4. Rothfire ($61.00)

Bet Now

His fresh up run wasn’t good enough to be competitive, and we’re taking the big odds with our Doomben 10,000 picks.

5. Uncommon James ($67.00)

Bet Now

His form has tapered off a touch after showing little last time out, and he would need everything to go his way just to figure in the first four.

He’s looking for something easier at this stage of his career.

6. Reserve Bank ($81.00)

A Group 1 winner, so he has class on his side. However, he might need a few more runs under his belt, and barrier 17 put a sizable dent in his winning hopes.

7. Private Harry (Best Roughie - $27.00)

We’re taking a risk with Private Harry, but we’re giving him another chance. His odds drifted last start due to the track conditions, but he’s better on top of the ground.

He gets a gun run from the draw, and the odds make him a worthwhile inclusion.

8. Warnie ($16.00)

Not always known as a pure sprinting type, but he showed good speed to run third behind Splash Back fresh up.

His odds are shortening, and we’re including him in our first four picks.

9. Zarastro ($41.00)

His best form could be behind him, and it would be a sizable upset. Drawn well, but he needs to find 3-4 lengths to win.

10. Payline ($35.00)

Not an easy runner to leave out. He’s a consistent type, but he will need to do too much from a wide barrier.

11. Devil Night (Best Each Way - $9.50)

The Tempted race should be the best form guide for the Doomben 10,000, and it was a big effort to run second.

He has come of age this season, and we’re happy to include him at the generous odds. He should settle handy and kick strongly.

12. Grafterburners (Best Bet - $6.50)

No luck in the Arrowfield last time out, and he still ran third. That was an excellent effort, and we thought he would have been shorter in the market.

Loving the odds for a talented Queenslander, who gets Zac Purton in the saddle, and he knows a thing or two about quality sprinters.

13. Skybird ($26.00)

Drawing barrier 18 isn’t ideal, and she will get back in the run and not have enough time to wind up.

Hard to leave her out, but her form this prep hasn’t been good enough, hence the massive odds.

She scored a good fresh up win, but it didn’t come at this level. Unlikely to back it up.

17. Beadman ($12.00)

A commanding winner last week, but it’s interesting to see James McDonald opt to ride Napoleonic instead, despite not being guaranteed a start.

A nice enough type on his day, so include him in picks if there is room for one more.

18. Napoleonic ($7.00)

Bet Now

He needs luck getting into the field, but McDonald is booked to ride, and he could turn his last-start effort around.

A quality type on his day, so if he makes the final field, he can’t be left out.

19. Esjay ($151.00)

Big odds, and despite having winning form, this would be a huge upset.
