Doomben Cup Form Guide & Tips
The Melbourne Cup winner chased gamely behind Pride of Jenni last start, but if Jenni goes forward again, we don’t think he’ll be able to catch her.
Everything hinges on how Pride of Jenni is ridden, but Half Yours is all class, and he could sustain a long run needed to chase down the champion mare.
We’re not leaving him out, and although this will be a tactical race that won’t suit him, his ability can’t be underestimated.
A proven stayer who could fill a top four position with the right run. It will be a truly run race, which helps Vauban more than others, so he can’t be overlooked at the odds.
We’re happy to include him as a first-four pick.
It was hard to find value in the Doomben Cup, but given his recent form, Asterix could score a blowout win at $13.
The former New Zealand runner has regained his confidence with wins at Randwick and Gosford, and Chris Waller has finally figured him out.
This is a rise in class, but he could boost payouts in a big way.
Birdman was close to being out best bet after chasing Pride of Jenni for second last start. He made more ground than most in the field, and he has matured into a standout thoroughbred this season.
He doesn’t go on top because he will need to chase again, which isn’t easy to do, but a top three finish is expected from the Waller-trained runner with James McDonald in the saddle.
The only runner we don’t like to finish in the first four. He’ll likely be run off his feet, and as the odds suggest, this could be too tough for him.
She is the star of the show after running them into the ground last start, and we hope Declan Bates adopts similar tactics.
When she rolls forward and puts 10-20 lengths on them, she doesn’t get beaten. Her cruising speed is too fast for the opposition to bridge the gap, so it all depends on race tactics.
We expect more of the same, and the $3.70 odds will firm on race day with the weight of betting support.
Her run for third behind Pride of Jenni at Gold Coast was excellent, and she is a big-race winner in the waiting.
The former Kiwi is drawn to get all favours in the run, and she hasn’t been missed in betting markets at each-way odds, so there is confidence.
A win wouldn’t surprise us, so include her in picks.
