Doomben horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:23) BRC Christmas Gift Guide Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Way Beyond @ $2.30 – Bet Now
Way Beyond has run two good races to date and he’s at much shorter odds this time around.
The Stuart Kendrick-trained two-year-old went well against a strong field last start and the form out of that race should stack up nicely.
A little short in the betting but the inside draw makes him tough to stop.
Race 2. (12:58) Summer Racing Carnival Handicap (1350m)
#5 – Cellarmaid @ $2.90 – Bet Now
Cellarmaid looks the best of the runners in what should be a hotly-contested race.
The Kelly Schweida-trained three-year-old has won her last two races, including a three-length win at Eagle Farm last start.
She has been primed for this run with a recent barrier trial at Sunshine Coast and she looks the hardest to beat here.
$2.90 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Race 3. (13:33) Tab The Eagle Way Handicap (2000m)
#7 – Alignment @ $9.50 – Bet Now
Alignment has finished in the money in three of her four starts to date and there’s nothing wrong with that form.
The daughter of Smart Missile scored at Ballina to open her account and has run a couple of solid races since.
She doesn’t have the best form coming into this race, but she has plenty of improvement to come and should run well at odds.
Race 4. (14:08) Hamilton Hotel BM75 (2200m)
#3 – Red Stina @ $4.20 – Bet Now
Red Stina gets back in her races so drawing barrier 15 won’t be an issue here. However, she does need the pace on up front.
She got too far back during the run last start but was making big ground off the leader in the straight. Prior to that, she scored a terrific win at Doomben by a half-length and that’s good form for this.
The big field suits so look for her to get back and be finishing strongest once again.
Race 5. (14:48) Tab C3 Handicap (1200m)
#13 – Astro Boy Toy @ $2.80 – Bet Now
Form is with Astro Boy Toy, which has won two of his three career starts to date.
The Edmonds-trained three-year-old scored by a length as the odds-on favourite last start and his only defeat came behind the talented Stampe.
His most recent run came in August but he has been given a trial in preparation for this and it bodes well for a good run.
Looks the one to beat.
Race 6. (15:28) BRC Christmas Movies 1MW (1350m)
#9 – All Important @ $5.50 – Bet Now
Tony Gollan lines up the five-year-old gelding which has drawn wide, but only needs some luck to win.
The son of I Am Invincible is a five-time winner which is coming off a half-length win at Doomben, so he must be considered here.
Punters are getting nice odds and although drawing barrier 15 is an obvious negative, he goes close with some luck in the run.
Race 7. (16:08) Sidekicker Bribie Handicap (1050m)
#4 – Spurcraft @ $4.20 – Bet Now
Spurcraft is as consistent as they come. The six-year-old has had 13 starts for eight wins and five placings.
It doesn’t get much better than that and he has yet to finish worse than second in four career fresh up starts.
He’s an underrated type which has form around some slick types and we’re enjoying the $4.20 on offer from bookmakers.
Must be included here.
Race 8. (16:48) Tab Brisbane Handicap (1600m)
#1 – The Candy Man @ $4.30 – Bet Now
The Candy Man is the class act of this field and he’s coming off a big win at Sunshine Coast.
The Barry Baldwin-trained runner went off the boil a touch before winning last start, but he’s an eight-time winner from 18 starts.
Drawing barrier three is ideal and we’re expecting him to be finishing over the top of them once again.
Race 9. (17:25) Inglis Just Now Quality (1350m)
#9 – Snow Valley @ $3.90 – Bet Now
Snow Valley is a nice type and she wasn’t all that far away when running fifth at Doomben last time out.
The four-year-old is a three-time winner from seven starts which gets in with a light weight here and should prove tough to handle.
Robbie Fradd is a good rider to have in the saddle so consider at the each-way odds.
