Doomben horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:38) 4 Pines Pacific Ale C3 Plate (1600m)
#11 – Eric the Eel @ $3.10 – Bet Now
We’re keeping the faith with Eric the Eel, which was good enough to win twice and place in three races early on. The three-year-old hit the line nicely for sixth at Eagle Farm last start and it was a stout effort.
He’s going to derive plenty of benefit from that run and there are no superstars in this field, so he could pay a nice price.
Value is with Eric the Eel.
Race 2. (14:13) Hit105 BM90 (2000m)
#5 – Raqeeq @ $3.10 – Bet Now
Raqeeq made a successful transition to Queensland racing last start when scoring by 1.3 lengths at Eagle Farm. He paid overs at $4 and we’re not expecting bookmakers to have him at that price again.
It was his second consecutive win after scoring at Canterbury by a half-length in January. He’s in form and that should continue his week.
Race 3. (14:48) IPG Marketing Jewel Prelude (1110m)
#1 – Rothfire @ $1.22 – Bet Now
It’s hard to look away from Rothfire’s form after he has posted three unbeaten runs. The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding won impressively by 4.5 lengths last start and that’s a sign of things to come.
His last two wins have come by a combined margin of 10.5 lengths and it’s not like he has been facing weak fields.
Punters won’t get big odds but he’s worth backing regardless.
Race 4. (15:23) Winning Edge Presentations 2YO (1110m)
#6 – Poupee @ $26 – Bet Now
Stuart Kendrick lines up the two-year-old filly that was too good for a small field at Sunshine Coast last start.
She has always shown plenty of ability in her short career to date, and it was good to see her cap off some solid runs with a win.
Kicking on with it is harder but we’re confident she can.
Race 5. (16:02) Members at Tattersalls Handicap (1200m)
#10 – Macewen @ $6.50 – Bet Now
Macewen is a winner of six from 16 starts and despite his best form coming at Eagle Farm, he should be respected against this level of opposition.
The four-year-old by Rothesay prepared for this run with a trial at Doomben and running with only 54kg brings him right into contention.
Drawing barrier three is good and he shouldn’t be far off them at each-way odds.
Race 6. (16:42) G.H. Mumm Jewel Prelude (1200m)
#9 – Exondabeach @ $3.40 – Bet Now
Exondabeach was an impressive winner at Eagle Farm two weeks ago when scorching home to win by a length. That win did come at the open Eagle Farm, but she should be able to cope with Doomben.
It was her second win from as many starts, and her debut win was also impressive when scoring by 2.8 lengths.
This is by far her toughest test to date and punters should get decent odds.
Race 7. (17:22) Stav, Abby & Matt BM75 (1110m)
#5 – Solar Star @ $8.50 – Bet Now
Solar Star is a fresh-up specialist with five starts for three wins and a placing. The Tony Gollan-trained mare didn’t handle the rise in grade last start before going out for a spell.
We’re expecting her to return to form fresh up and she’s also a two-time winner over this distance.
An in-form jockey takes the ride and she could be too slick for them.
Race 8. (18:02) Sky Tattersalls Member’s Cup (1600m)
#10 – Impasse @ $4 – Bet Now
Impasse didn’t lose any admirers when running second at Eagle Farm last start, and he’s worth sticking with.
The Matt Dunn-trained five-year-old is a professional six-time winner from 22 starts. That record is tough to overlook and his chances of winning improve even further with 54kg on his back.
Each-way odds should be available.
Race 9. (18:40) Stella Artois C6 Handicap (1350m)
#10 – Sister Patti @ $14 – Bet Now
Sister Patti comes into this race after winning at Eagle Farm and she could go back-to-back. The Ross-trained runner has the experience needed to win this race and we wouldn’t be surprised if she did.
Punters will get value odds, so stick with her.
