Doomben horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:03) Happy New Year From BRC C3 (1050m)

#1 – Frederick the Dane @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Frederick the Dane was too slick for them at Ipswich last start and we like his chances of going back-to-back.

The four-year-old son of Danerich owns three wins and seven placings from 13 starts, so he is rarely too far away from the pace.

Punters get odds worth taking.

Race 2. (12:38) Girls Day Out March BM72 (2000m)

#4 – Neptune’s Choice @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Neptune’s Choice comes off three consecutive placings and he shouldn’t take long to break maiden grades.

The Smith-trained five-year-old is a past winner at Doomben and he should get every chance from barrier five.

Punters get each-way odds for the risk.

Race 3. (13:13) Trapeze Artist 1st Yearlings (1200m)

#4 – Soaring Ambition @ $2.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Soaring Ambition scored impressively on debut at Wyong and we like her chances of going back-to-back.

The Annabel Neasham-trained two-year-old defeated a classy field in the Wyong Magic Millions, so she is well worth following.

It could pay to watch for late betting moves.

Race 4. (13:48) Magic Millions Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Wisdom of Water @ $3.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet

It took some time but punters finally scored with Wisdom of Water, who won at Wyong last time out.

The four-year-old son of Headwater had been disappointing in strong fields, so the easier opposition has made a difference.

We like his chances of kicking on with it and the price is right.

Race 5. (14:28) The Venue Mode BM78 (1350m)

#6 – Strange Charm @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Strange Charm looked the goods when winning fresh up at Canterbury before running close behind some smart types in Shihonka and Snippy Fox.

The Kris Lees-trained five-year-old has drifted since opening at $3.80, but there is still enough support for punters to be confident.

We like her chances of being right in the thick of the finish.

Race 6. (15:08) Magic Millions Shoot Out Handicap (2000m)

#7 – Smart Meteor @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Smart Meteor scored at Eagle Farm two starts back before running third at Doomben. Anything close to that form should see him in the mix again.

The son of Smart Missile was only a half-length behind the winner last start and he was taking ground off the field late in the piece.

Getting the inside barrier and carrying 54kg is ideal, so put him in selections.

Race 7. (15:48) Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate (1350m)

#8 – Shihonka @ $1.95 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Shihonka has won three of her four starts this season and her only defeat came at Caulfield when nothing went right.

The three-year-old filly by Capitalist comes off a tidy win at Rosehill and she has been primed with a trial placing at Rosehill.

She gets the inside draw and she could control the pace and kick clear.

Race 8. (16:28) Magic Millions The Buffering (1350m)

#3 – Apache Chase @ $2.35 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old gelding comes off a 2.5-length win at Eagle Farm and he is a class above most in this race.

He is an eight-time winner from 18 starts, and although yet to win at Doomben from two attempts, it’s only a matter of time.

Barrier 14 makes it harder but the odds are worth taking.

Race 9. (17:08) Magic Millions Nudgee Stakes (1200m)

#4 – Isotope @ $2.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Isotope doesn’t know how to run a bad race with five wins and three placings from 10 career starts.

The talented mare by Deep Field was beaten a nose by Wild Ruler at Randwick last start, which is an incredible form guide.

She is the best horse in the race and we don’t think the $2.30 will last long.
