Doomben horse racing tips & form

Race 1. (13:37) XXXX Dry Maiden Handicap (1640m)

#1 – Critical Thinker – Bet @ Sportsbet

Critical Thinker has rattled off three consecutive third placings and he deserves a winning turn on Wednesday.

The four-year-old settled back and hit the line strongly last start over 1400m, so rising to the mile is right up his alley.

There don’t appear to be any superstars in this field, so he should be well-favoured with bookmakers.

Race 2. (14:12) Happy Birthday Wendy Rigby C4 (1350m)

#3 – Spokesman – Bet @ Sportsbet

Spokesman comes from the powerful Chris Waller stable, and although beaten last start, he wasn’t disgraced.

The four-year-old has yet to fire from three attempts at Doomben, but his win at Ipswich three starts ago is a good sign.

We have seen better C4 fields in Queensland, so with Nash Rawiller in the saddle off the inside draw, he should be tough to handle.

Race 3. (14:47) Encryption First Yearlings Maiden (1200m)

#2 – Allora Enzo – Bet @ Sportsbet

The son of Proisir ended his first campaign with three consecutive second placings, so it shouldn’t take him long to win.

He has been primed with a trial placing at Doomben, so he could hit the ground running and get off the mark.

Drawing the inside barrier over this distance helps and his best form should see him winning.

Race 4. (15:22) Tab Venue Mode BM75 (1200m)

#2 – Wham – Bet @ Sportsbet

Wham is a professional six-year-old with five wins and seven placings to his name.

The son of Fiorente comes off a third placing at Toowoomba, and the level of opposition wasn’t overly strong, he can measure up.

He finished second at his only Doomben start, so the track is no problem. He also runs well over the distance, so punters should be confident with the each-way odds available.

Race 5. (15:57) The Bob Russell Rona C2 (1640m)

#8 – If You Can Dream – Bet @ Sportsbet

If You Can Dream hasn’t been far away this season with three placings from three starts.

The four-year-old mare owns a win and four placings from six starts, so she has been right around the mark throughout her career.

Dropping to 54kg makes her tough to beat and she should enjoy racing at Doomben for the first time.

Race 6. (16:32) Written By Yearlings BM70 (1640m)

#2 – Continuation – Bet @ Sportsbet

Kris Lees lines up the six-year-old son of Fiorente, who is better than what he showed at Doomben last start.

He didn’t handle the heavy surface, but he looked much better winning his previous two starts at Eagle Farm and Sunshine Coast.

Getting improved conditions is ideal and the 2kg claim doesn’t do his chances any harm. We expect bookmakers to have him firm in the market and those odds could firm on race day.

Race 7. (17:07) M.M Inspections Start Today BM70 (1050m)

#5 – One Shy Ruby – Bet @ Sportsbet

Looking to score consecutive wins is One Shy Ruby, who scored by just under a length at Sunshine Coast.

The Chris Anderson-trained mare has always had plenty of potential and she showed her turn-of-foot when winning, so he could repeat the dose.

Barrier six should give her a nice trip in transit and punters could get each-way odds to enjoy.
