Doomben racing tips

Race 1. (12:33) Become a BRC Member Maiden (2070m)

#5 – So Suave

So Suave is working his way towards a win after finishing second at Kembla Grange last time out.

Coming to Queensland could see his form improve, and there are no superstars in this midweek maiden field.

He’s bred to stay, so he’s worth putting on top.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (13:08) Tattersalls Tiara Maiden (1660m)

#8 – Lune D’excellence

Lune D’excellence has improved with every run throughout her career, including placings at Newcastle and Gold Coast.

The Kris Lees-trained three-year-old is bred to enjoy running over longer distances, so going from 1400m to 1660m won’t worry her.

Getting the inside draw adds to her appeal, so back her with confidence.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 3. (13:43) Mekka Raceday Handicap (1350m)

#1 – North Pole

North Pole won well at Ipswich three back before facing open-class company at Eagle Farm last time out.

The two-year-old gelding should appreciate being back in midweek company, and running on a rain-affected track won’t worry him.

Look for a betting push on race day.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (14:18) XXXX Gold Maiden (1110m)

#4 – Deep Vegas

Deep Vegas ran second on debut at Eagle Farm behind Limero, which should be a good form guide for this race.

The four-yar-old mare by Deep Field has been prepared with a trial win at Doomben in heavy conditions, which bodes well.

Barrier 11 isn’t ideal, but Angela Jones could push forward and be tough to catch.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 5. (14:53) Mullins Lawyers C3 (1660m)

#1 – Zou Big Boy

Seeking four consecutive wins is Zou Big Boy, who won at Ipswich and Toowoomba in fine style.

There is more depth to this field, but the three-year-old son of Zousain owns three wins from seven starts overall, so it’s a good record.

Getting 1.5kg off his back is enough to take him close.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 6. (15:28) QCF Charity C1 (1200m)

#5 – King Boom

King Boom won well at Ipswich two back before finishing fourth at Doomben, so that’s an excellent form guide.

The three-year-old gelding by Spirit of Boom owns a win and a placing from five starts, with all five runs coming over this distance.

1.5kg comes off his back, which adds to his appeal.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 7. (16:03) Sky Racing BM70 (1350m)

#3 – Starry Eyes

Starry Eyes is improving with every run this preparation, including a fourth at Eagle Farm in heavy conditions last time out.

The Chris Anderson-trained gelding is a past winner at the track and a two-time winner over the distance, which bodes well.

Barrier two is ideal, so include him in picks.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 8. (16:34) Ladbrokes Form Genius C5 (1110m)

#5 – Caspernova

Caspernova showed good speed last preparation when winning three consecutive races, and he doesn’t know how to run a bad race.

The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding has yet to finish worse than second from two starts at Doomben, so that form checks out.

Look for a solid betting push on race day.

Stake: 2.5 Units
