The Brisbane Winter Carnival isn’t far away but the tracks are firm for the meantime. That means we’re seeing quick thoroughbreds in action and this Wednesday sees an eight-race card at Doomben.
Midweek racing is a great time to jump on the early value and we have free tips and form for every race on the card this Wednesday.
Doomben free tips & form
Race 1. (13:18) Blokes Out Raceday Maiden (1200m)
#1 – Ticketome – Bet Now
Robert Heathcote lines up the five-year-old which has had three starts for two placings, but they came in 2016 and he has been off the scene for a long time.
The son of Tickets has obviously had his fair share of problems but his trial form has been good coming into this and with a 2.3-length trial win at Doomben under his belt, he looks tough to beat in this.
Market could tell the story.
Race 2. (13:53) Tab Maiden Plate (1640m)
#6 – Diplomatic Miss – Bet Now
Two placings from four starts, including a close-up second at Sunshine Coast last start. The three-year-old filly is bred to enjoy longer distances and the 1640m looks ideal here.
She has steadily improved throughout her young career and carrying only 54.5kg is going to make her awfully tough to beat.
Expecting bookmakers to have her well fancied in the betting.
Race 3. (14:28) BRC Memberships BM65 (1640m)
#2 – Sornja – Bet Now
Got way too far back at Eagle Farm last start when 3.7 lengths behind Zoucara but if she settles closer here, she should be a winning hope.
Trained by Steven O’Dea, the five-year-old mare is only a two-time winner from 25 starts but she has placed on three occasions at Doomben and she gets the inside draw to work with.
Likely to be at each-way odds here.
Race 4. (15:03) Tab BM85 (1050m)
#6 – Whycatchim – Bet Now
Almost got the chocolates at Doomben last start but was nabbed by just under a length behind One Stryke. The six-year-old has been around the mark his entire career and he gets some crucial weight relief here.
He carried 58kg last time out and dropping to 54kg with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle is a big bonus. That could be enough to turn the tables and given his form second up, which includes a win and a placing, he should be tough to beat.
Race 5. (15:38) The Racing Museum Maiden (1350m)
#4 – Home Scene – Bet Now
We will continue to follow the Chris Waller-trained stayers which have come over from Sydney. They are going well at Home Scene is good enough to put a few lengths on this field.
The Exceed And Excel three-year-old has placed four times from nine starts and was only 2.6 lengths behind Altair last start at Canterbury.
That’s strong form for this race and if he’s anywhere near his best, he should be putting this field away.
Race 6. (16:13) Paddyfest C2 Handicap (2040m)
#7 – Relaxed – Bet Now
Experience stayer which has been in-and-out of form throughout his career but he has the ability to win a race like this.
The son of Lonhro has placed twice this season and although his last win came in July of 2018, he meets an even class 2 field here and bookmakers should be offering up each way odds.
Gets every chance from barrier five and he should sit just off the speed and pounce late.
Race 7. (16:50) Weddings At BRC C2 Handicap (1350m)
#4 – Seahampton – Bet Now
Another from the Waller stables and although she’s out of form, that form is likely to stack up perfectly for Doomben.
The four-year-old mare has run behind the likes of Seasons and Fuchu this season, which is quality open class form.
Likely to be at short odds here and punters should take them.
Race 8. (15:27) Sky Thoroughbred Central BM65 (1200m)
#11 – Veranes – Bet Now
The classy three-year-old filly was an easy 1.8-legnth winner at Gold Coast last start and that form is going to stack up nicely in this.
She is another quality Waller-trained runner and he’s clearly targeting the easier races in Queensland. She does rise from maiden grades but she drops in weight and senior rider Larry Cassidy takes over the riding.
Should be a short-priced favourite.
