Doomben horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (12:33) Darby McCarthy Tribute Maiden (1050m)
#10 – Liza With A Zee – Bet Now
Two-year-old filly Liza With A Zee won a trial at Doomben to prepare for this race and she could show up on race day.
Trained by Tony Gollan, the daughter of Zoustar didn’t show much on debut but she appears to be better than what she showed then.
Jim Byrne takes the ride and we should see some market confidence.
Race 2. (13:08) Theraces Maiden (1050m)
#8 – She’s Our Rippa – Bet Now
She’s Our Rippa is backing up after running second at Doomben last start and she could go one better.
The Gollan-trained filly owns two placings from seven starts but she’s better than advertised. She meets only an average maiden field here and she could take advantage.
We’re expecting She’s Our Rippa to break maiden grades very soon.
Race 3. (13:43) Tab Stradbroke Season Maiden (1350m)
#6 – Corvo – Bet Now
We’re going with another Gollan-trained runner here. Corvo finished second behind Aviemore on debut and he was paying $26 on that occasion.
He’ll be much shorter in the betting here and despite facing a tough field, he should be right in the mix.
Baylee Nothdurft takes the ride and he’ll be keen to kick home some winners before his three-month suspension hits.
Race 4. (14:18) Moet & Chandon Maiden (1350m)
#12 – Windchill – Bet Now
The three-year-old filly wasn’t too far away when running third last Wednesday. The daughter of Fastnet Rock should break maiden grades soon and it could come here.
Trained by Stuart Kendrick, Windchill has been around the mark her entire career without exiting maiden grades.
The inside draw is ideal and she could make the best of it.
Race 5. (14:53) XXXX Dry Raceday C1 (2240m)
#6 – Steel Pier – Bet Now
Steel Pier scored an overdue win last start and he has every chance of winning again. It wasn’t as easy as expected for the $1.80 favourite, but he knuckled down nicely.
Another runner for Tony Gollan, Steel Pier relished the rise in distance and he’s going to enjoy the 2240m again.
Big bets will likely come his way and he’s a good chance of going back-to-back.
Race 6. (15:28) Stradbroke Day Handicap (2070m)
#4 – Empire Games – Bet Now
Empire Games went within a nose of winning last start and he could go one better. The Chris Anderson-trained gelding scored a win in February and he hasn’t been far away since.
Drawing barrier two with only 55kg on his back ideal. He also gets the experienced Jim Byrne in the saddle and that helps.
Expect bookmakers to have him firm in the market.
Race 7. (16:03) Quincy Raceday C1 (1200m)
#6 – Musicmaker – Bet Now
Musicmaker has finished in the money in four of her six starts. It has been a good start to her career, which includes a win at Doomben last month.
The daughter of All Too Hard set the pace at Sunshine Coast last start before being run down late. There was merit in that performance and punters shouldn’t be discouraged.
She only needs luck from the wide draw to figure in the finish.
Race 8. (16:38) Bneraces BM70 (1350m)
#6 – Waking Moment – Bet Now
Waking Moment scored a win at her most recent start and that came at Canterbury. It’s good form for this level of racing and she could hit the ground running.
Her barrier trials have been poor but she never tries hard at the trials and Waller keeps them ready for race day.
Look for good odds and she could run well.
