His odds should firm on race day, so take the value price.

#14 – Balance the Books @ $4.20

We have backed Balance the Books in two runs back this preparation, and although yet to win, she has worked to the line nicely.

The Tony Gollan-trained mare owns three wins from six starts, which is a good record, and she’s unbeaten in two runs at Doomben.

52kg makes her an excellent chance to return to winning form.

#5 – Katoto @ $2.80

Katoto showed professionalism to win last time out at Kembla Grange, and the addition of James McDonald in the saddle doesn’t hurt her chances.

There are some nice types in this race, but it’s tough to deny the Waller/McDonald combo, and she could be a nice type in the making.

Race 4. (13:28) Seven Darby McCarthy 3YO (1110m)

#9 – Sylph @ $3.80

Sylph is one of the better maiden runners going around with six placings from nine starts, and she has over $370,000 in the bank.

The three-year-old filly by I Am Invincible wasn’t too far away when seventh at Gold Coast last time out, and she could bounce back.

She deserves a win, and it could come at stakes level.

Race 5. (14:03) XXXX Chief de Beers Quality (1110m)

#7 – Barber @ $9.00

Barber can be a tough runner to follow, but he has promised to go to another level, and that could happen this preparation.

The five-year-old son of Exceed and Excel has yet to race at Doomben, but the change in scenery could be enough to get him an elusive win.

Getting in with 55.5kg on his back is enough to take him close.

Race 6. (14:38) Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Plate (1600m)

#7 – Hyperbolic @ $12.00

The four-year-old mare showed speed when winning consecutive races earlier this campaign, so a return to that form would be ideal.

The consistent gelding owns eight wins and five placings from 23 starts, and he tends to go under the radar in betting markets.
