Doomben horse racing tips
Race 1. (11:15) Racecourse Shopping Centre BM72 (1050m)
#3 – Koonunga – Bet Now
The Matthew Smith-trained runner usually fires early on and that’s the best guide. She has had two fresh up starts for a win and two second-up starts for two wins.
It bodes well for a big run here and punters should be able to get good odds. He was prepared with a trial win at Warwick Farm and that bodes well in Queensland.
Race 2. (11:50) Ascot Green BM90 (1600m)
#6 – La Pulga – Bet Now
La Pulga is in fine form this season, which includes two wins from his last three starts. The four-year-old scored a dead-heat win last start and he could turn his poor form around at Doomben.
He’s yet to win or place from three runs at Doomben, but his confidence is up and that can make a difference.
Dropping in weight helps so include him in selections.
Race 3. (12:25) Tab C6 Handicap (1200m)
#8 – Pinnacle Star – Bet Now
Pinnacle Star doesn’t know how to run a bad race and he’s a good chance again. He has finished in the money in eight of his nine starts, which is a terrific record.
Drawing barrier 12 might put some punters off, but with only 55kg on his back, that brings him into contention.
He went within a nose of winning fresh up at Ipswich and he’s capable of going one better.
Race 4. (13:00) XXXX Gold Bill Carter Stakes (1110m)
#1 – Gotta Kiss – Bet Now
Gotta Kiss got back to winning form at Doomben last start and she’s a runner to follow. The filly by Not A Single Doubt owns three wins from six starts and the inside draw is ideal.
She does take a while to warm up in her races but she times it nicely and we’re expecting another top effort.
Watch for a market push.
Race 5. (13:40) Mitavite Pam O’Neill Stakes (1600m)
#1 – Rocha Clock – Bet Now
Rocha Clock wasn’t suited in the small field last start and she still ran second behind Dawn Passage.
The three-year-old filly is a four-time winner from seven starts and she’s explosive at best. She will get back from the draw and expect a huge turn-of-foot in the straight.
She has this field covered on class.
Race 6. (14:15) Channel 7 Hinkler Handicap (1110m)
#9 – Usmanov – Bet Now
Usmanov is in winning form and although he will need luck from the draw, he has the form on the board.
The Edmonds-trained gelding has won three of his last four starts, including a win at Gold Coast by 1.8 lengths.
He’s meeting a harder field now but at 54.5kg, he’s worth sticking with.
Race 7. (14:55) XXXX Dry Chairman’s Handicap (2000m)
#4 – Another Dollar @ $6 – Bet Now
Another Dollar staved off retirement when winning last start and she could continue on with it.
The Chris Waller-trained mare has four wins from 24 starts, but she has more than $600,000 in the kitty.
She has faced tough fields throughout her career and getting the inside draw makes her tough to beat.
Race 8. (15:35) Fred Best Classic (1350m)
#3 – Dawn Passage @ $3.10 – Bet Now
Dawn Passage showed his class when beating Rocha Clock last start and it’s terrific form for this race.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt has won back-to-back races coming into this race and that form is tough to look away from.
He’s a son of Dawn Approach with high ambitions and this race is his for the taking.
Race 9. (16:15) Helen Coughlan Stakes (1350m)
#18 – Subpoenaed – Bet Now
The Waller-trained runner had no luck when running fourth last start and she should have won.
She’s a former Kiwi that gets in very light at 54kg. That’s going to make her tough to hold out and she only needs luck in the run.
The betting should be interesting but we’re expecting money to come her way.
