Doomben horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:03) Sky Racing Handicap (1110m)

#8 – Saweetie @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Punters should always consider a Tony Gollan-trained runner who has been well-backed on debut.

The two-year-old filly by I Am Invincible cost $600,000 and showed her worth when winning a trial at Eagle Farm by over a length.

She gets the inside draw and she could score on debut.

Race 2. (12:38) BRC Membership BM80 (2000m)

#5 – Southern Rock @ $3.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Southern Rock went close when finishing second by a nose last start, so we like his chances of going one better.

The Matthew Dunn-trained six-year-old owns two wins over this distance and dropping to 53.5kg brings him into contention.

Most of the early money has come his way.

Race 3. (13:13) XXXX Dry C6 Handicap (1600m)

#6 – So Taken @ $3.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet

So Taken has gone close since arriving in Brisbane, including back-to-back second placings at her last two starts.

The former Kiwi is classy at her best, and despite not winning at Doomben from six attempts, she gets her best chance here.

Stick with her, and her odds have firmed from an opening quote of $3.90.

Race 4. (13:52) Mount Franklin BM72 (1600m)

#13 – Wheels @ $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Wheels lived up her name when scoring at Ipswich last start and she looks good enough to kick on with it.

The five-year-old mare by Shocking won’t be worried with the drop in distance, and getting the inside draw with only 54kg on her back is ideal.

Punters should take the each-way odds available.

Race 5. (14:32) Country Final Handicap (1200m)

#8 – Manhood @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Manhood opened at $10 and was immediately backed into $4.20, which is an excellent sign on debut.

The Michael Costa-trained colt won a trial at Gold Coast by 3.8 lengths before being given two soft trials at Gold Coast and Ballina.

Based on the betting, the stable is preparing to strike on race day.

Race 6. (15:12) Cascade BM80 (1050m)

#6 – Lyrical Girl @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Lyrical Girl capped off three consecutive placings with a win at Doomben last start, so she could kick on with it.

The Gollan-trained mare got there in the shadows of the post, and with two wins from three starts on the track, she should feel comfortable.

Conditions suit and punters should be confident.

Race 7. (15:52) Tab Venue Mode BM72 (1200m)

#10 – Nicci Trix @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Coming off a 4.3-length win is Nicci Trix, who owns two wins from four attempts at this distance.

The Lauren Abbott-trained four-year-old handles all track conditions and she has been well-backed to win after opening at $8.

2kg comes off her back, so include her.

Race 8. (16:32) Tab Keith Noud (1200m)

#2 – The Harrovian @ $4.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Class is with The Harrovian, who ran behind the likes of Tofane and Eduardo during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

The eight-year-old gelding is a 17-time winner from 34 starts, so he has class on his side and we’re putting him on top.

His fresh up form reads well, so the $4.50 is a generous price.

Race 9. (17:12) Gallopers Sports Club BM85 (1350m)

#12 – Morethannumberone @ $2.15 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Money has come for the favourite after opening at $2.50. The Costa-trained gelding owns four wins from 19 starts, but three of those wins have come from its last four starts.

He scored by 1.3 lengths last time out and dropping to 54kg is ideal. He should find a good position from barrier four and be right in the thick of the finish.

The $2.15 could shorten to an odds-on quote on race day.
