Doomben horse racing tips

Race 1. (11:58) Pierata at Aquis Plate (1050m)

#1 – Hard to Say – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Jason Dreamer-trained colt won a trial at Scone by 1.8 lengths and we’re expecting that form to hold up nicely.

He is a well-bred son of Exceed and Excel who cost $160,000, so the expectations of success on debut are high.

Getting the inside is ideal, so put him on top.

Race 2. (12:33) Peter Cousins Service 0MW (1350m)

#3 – The Pines – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Pines has yet to win this preparation, but she’s improving and coming off a tidy second placing at Gold Coast.

She was only 1.3 lengths behind Miami Fleiss, which is excellent form for this level of racing. She is a six-time winner from 16 starts, so the class is there.

3kg comes off her back and she maps perfectly in this contest.

Race 3. (13:08) Sky Racing BM72 (1200m)

#11 – Ingear – Bet @ Sportsbet

The ability is there with Ingear and the five-year-old showed that when winning at Eagle Farm last start.

She scored by a nose on the line, which showed her toughness. It was her third win at the distance, and although yet to win at Doomben, she has gone close.

She meets an even field, but we wouldn’t be leaving her out of selections.

Race 4. (13:43) Springsocial BM80 (2030m)

#10 – Ocean Treaty – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ocean Treaty didn’t fire at Gold Coast last start, but the five-year-old was only two lengths behind the winner.

She looked much better when winning two back at Eagle Farm, which came at upset odds of $31. She is a past winner at Doomben, and dropping to 52kg is ideal.

Ocean Treaty has been a good bet for punters, so include her.

Race 5. (14:18) Mount Franklin C3 Plate (1630m)

#6 – First Son – Bet @ Sportsbet

First Son is looking to remain unbeaten after scoring at Rockhampton and Sunshine Coast.

The four-year-old gelding faces a rise in class, but connections are confident and he deserves a chance in this company.

He could mature into a handy type this season.

Race 6. (14:57) Tab Venue Mode BM85 (1630m)

#10 – Green Jacket – Bet @ Sportsbet

Green Jacket is knocking on the door after three consecutive second placings, so he’s going well enough to include.

The five-year-old finished second in consecutive runs at Gold Coast before running second at Doomben behind Rebel Rock.

54kg is ideal and he goes on top at each-way odds.

Race 7. (15:37) XXXX Dry C6 Plate (1200m)

#11 – Contemptuous – Bet @ Sportsbet

Contemptuous is a four-time winner from nine starts and only the barrier draw is working against him here.

The five-year-old has drawn barrier 17, but he will likely settle back and try finish over the top of them as he did at Eagle Farm last start.

Jaden Lloyd takes 3kg off his back, so include.

Race 8. (16:17) Bundaberg Rum Handicap (1050m)

#4 – King Klaus – Bet @ Sportsbet

King Klaus finished second behind The Move at Gold Coast, and there’s nothing wrong with that form.

It ended a four-run winning streak from the six-year-old, so he’s a nice type and his overall record is impressive. He owns 10 wins and five placings from 17 starts, so he doesn’t know how to run poorly.

Punters will get a good sight on Saturday.

Race 9. (16:57) Spring Garden Party on Sale (1200m)

#9 – Menazzi – Bet @ Sportsbet

Menazzi scored an impressive maiden win at Sunshine Coast last start and he’s capable of rising through the grades.

The Stuart Kendrick-trained gelding should appreciate racing with only 54.5kg on his back. He is facing a much harder field, but he’s a progressive type.

Punters should get each-way odds.
