Empire Rose Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Pride of Jenni ($5.00)
Pride of Jenni has the class edge on the field, but we’re worried about her fitness. She ran up to her best fresh up, but we saw that last preparation as well before she ran poorly.
Her poor run came last time out, and it’s a risk to back her in the Empire Rose. However, it’s also a risk to leave her out at $5.
She’s the unknown in the field, but on class alone, she is being included.
(2) Fangirl (Best Bet – $3.50)
The race at Randwick wasn’t run to suit those off the speed. She ran on respectably, and she gets to Flemington, where she owns a win and a placing from three starts.
This is an ideal track for a runner of her nature, and she often saves her best for this time of the year. That’s why she’s our top pick to win the Empire Rose Stakes.
$3.50 is a fair price from bookies, and we’re happy to take it.
(3) Abounding ($15.00)
She capped off consistent form with an overdue win last start. This is a much harder task, and we would prefer backing her a level below.
(4) Damask Rose (Best Roughie – $10.00)
It’s D-Day for the Kiwi mare, who has had three forgive runs this season. Her win in the NZB Kiwi was mightily impressive, but she gets back, and she needs luck.
Getting to Flemington seems natural, and she should use the entire straight to wind up and finish close at double-figure odds.
(5) Benagil ($19.00)
A solid enough run for third behind Zou Sensation, but that’s not elite Group 1 form. She could struggle to keep up with them here.
(6) Leica Lucy (Best Each Way – $5.50)
The Kiwi is looming to win a big race after recording good sectionals this preparation, including a good third last start.
She is nearing a statement win in Australia, and her form measures up nicely. Punters get $5.50, and her class could prevail on Saturday.
She must be included in all bets.
(7) Lazzura ($15.00)
Slightly disappointing last start, and her form might be a touch below her best. We would prefer to see her contest something slightly easier in Sydney.
(8) Firestorm ($34.00)
She didn’t fire at her only Flemington start, and we can’t see that changing. She needs a confidence boost.
(9) Splash Back ($21.00)
She ran second behind Abounding after getting a touch too far back. Her racing tactics can make her tough to back, but her record is impressive.
She could be a Group 1 winner soon, and although 1600m isn’t ideal, she could be right in the finish at odds.
(10) Idle Flyer ($6.50)
Beating Perfurmist is good form, with Perfumist being one of the chances in the Golden Eagle at Randwick.
The weights make it harder for her to win, which is a big detractor. If she got in with 52kg, we might include her at the odds, but as it stands, carrying the same weight as champions should make it too tough.
(11) On Display ($23.00)
An enigmatic type that likes to show up when least expected. She needs to improve to win this race.
He’s a nice colt, but this is the deep end, and we don’t think he handles it.
