Group 1 racing is back this Saturday with the C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield and it’s the feature race on a great betting card.
Some of Australia’s best weight-for-age stars take to Caulfield for the 1400m feature and it promises to be the most exciting race of the year.
There’s plenty of action throughout the card and also at Warwick Farm, which features some Golden Slipper lead-up races and the return of She Will Reign.
Caulfield free tips & form
Race 2. (13:05) Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m)
#2 – Oohood @ $3.60 – BET NOW
Oohood has been close in two career starts and this doesn’t look any harder than recent assignments.
The Tony McEvoy-trained two-year-old finished a nose behind the unbeaten Long Leaf on debut before running a close third at Caulfield last start.
She does need the pace on up front, but this field should provide that and she looks to have more upside than most in this field.
Race 3. (13:40) Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m)
#6 – Plague Stone @ $3.80 – BET NOW
We’re a little concerned about how Godolphin is travelling in Australia, but Plague Stone could remedy the situation.
The highly-touted colt by Lonhro was backed as if unbeatable on debut where he finished second behind Secret Lady as the $1.36 favourite.
That came after a strong trail win and he has again won impressively at the trials by 4.8 lengths. We’re hoping he’s not just a trials performaner and he shows his best ability on race day.
He will get every chance from barrier four and punters are getting good odds considering his appeal.
Race 4. (14:15) Ladbrokes Carlyon Cup (1600m)
#1 – Gailo Chop @ $2.10 – BET NOW
The money has come for Gailo Chop and it looks spot on.
An internationally-performed runner, Gailo Chop was more class than most of this field put together and he should be making a winning return.
Darren Weir lines up the 10-win winner which has won over $2.2 million throughout his career and that included a notable victory on this track last October.
He’s a Cox Plate runner which loves running fresh up and punters should have no problem taking the shorts on offer.
Race 5. (14:50) Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m)
#1 – Shoals @ $3.40 – BET NOW
Shoals is a class act and despite facing a tough field here, she should have too much class for them.
The Anthony Freedman-trained filly has won five of her seven career starts and her only defeats came behind the likes of Booker and Aloisia.
Running over 1200m might put some punters off, but she has won over this distance twice and she will be able to find the rail from barrier two and kick strongly in the straight.
Race 6. (15:25) Rubiton Stakes (1100m)
#8 – Ardrossan @ $4.80 – BET NOW
The former New Zealand runner has plenty of ability and he looks ready to fire for new trainer Mick Price.
A colt by Redoute’s Choice, the three-year-old was a 3.3-length winner on debut at Pukekohe before showing them a clean pair of heels at Te Rapa second-up, scoring by 3.8 lengths.
Top sprinters don’t usually come out of New Zealand, but he gets in here with only 53kg and he will only need luck to show his best.
Race 7. (16:05) Autumn Stakes (1400m)
#1 – Levendi @ $5 – BET NOW
Levendi is a major winner at his last start and he could continue that form fresh up.
The Peter Gelagotis-trained colt defeated a field of 15 in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington and that was a hot field.
He likes to get back in his races which could make this difficult, but he’s clearly the best horse in the race and punters are getting a good price.
Warwick Farm free tips & form
Race 1. (12:45) Thoroughbred Breeders’ Lonhro Plate (1100m)
#8 – Oxford Tycoon @ $4.80 – BET NOW
Kim Waugh lines up Oxford Tycoon which brings in impressive trial form into this.
The Written Tycoon colt defeated Satin Slipper in his first trial at Wyong before winning recently by 3.3 lengths at Gosford.
Trials form doesn’t stack up to race day form, but Waugh knows how to train juveniles and she he has drawn to get every chance from barrier two.
$4.80 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Race 4. (14:35) Highway Handicap (1200m)
#12 – Try A Lil Harder @ $3.80 – BET NOW
Big money has come for Try A Lil Harder, which has firmed in from $5.50 to $3.80.
The Rodney Northam-trained mare has won her last two starts and although they weren’t against tough fields, she looked impressive in doing so.
Drawing wide in barrier 16 will make it tough around Warwick Farm, but she gets in with an extremely light weight and the betting speaks volumes.
Punters are expecting a big run and this field looks there for the taking.
Race 6. (15:45) Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m)
#3 – Siege of Quebec @ $3.60 – BET NOW
Siege of Quebec was only a narrow winner as the $1.50 favourite last start, but he was entitled to get pushed against that field.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt extended his winning record to three wins from four starts and he doesn’t win by big margins, but he finds the line with purpose.
This will be his toughest test to date and he’s drifting in the market, but we believe he’s a value runner at the price considering Kementari won’t be suited by the distance and Brave Song hasn’t been tested at this level before.
Race 7. (16:25) Breeders’ Classic (1200m)
#4 – Bonny O’Reilly @ $3.20 – BET NOW
Bjorn Baker lines up the talented Bonny O’Reilly, which loves running fresh up.
The mare has won three of her four starts first up and although she hasn’t looked at her best in two trials since running ninth at Randwick last year, she hasn’t been fully pushed out.
She possesses plenty of speed and with only 54kg on her back, she should be able to find the rail and kick strongly.
