The 55 Second Challenge at Moonee Valley is one of the most exciting races each week and Moonee Valley is back with another quality meeting this Friday.
There’s also some great racing from Canterbury with the Schweppes Shooting Star and it’s one of the better Friday night fields in recent history.
Punters are loving the summer night racing and we’ve done the form to find our best tips across both meetings.

Canterbury free tips & form
Race 1. (18:15) Cash at Canterbury Maiden (1250m)
#1 – Dio D’oro @ $2.40 – BET NOW
Gary Portelli lines up the two-year-old which finished second on debut at Randwick.
That performance wasn’t expected as a $21 chance, but it came after he won a trial impressively at Warwick Farm and he’s at much shorter odds for this.
The son of Medaglia D’oro has a tricky draw of eight, but this isn’t a strong field and that race experience should help him here.
Race 2. (18:45) Tab Rewards Maiden (1400m)
#1 – Condor @ $2.35 – BET NOW
It’s only a matter of time before Condor wins a race and he put the writing on the wall last start.
The Paul Perry-trained colt finished a neck behind Rockin’ Ruga at Warwick Farm and the form out of that race should stack up nicely.
He has placed in four of his five starts, which included quality runs behind the likes of Hualalai and Siege of Quebec.
That’s excellent form for this level.
Race 3. (19:15) Book Summer Hospitality BM70 (1250m)
#7 – It’s So Obvious @ $2.30 – BET NOW
It’s So Obvious scored a quality win at Canterbury last start and a repeat could be on the cards.
The five-year-old mare won by 1.8 lengths in a field of six and although she faces a bigger field for this, that should only help her chances.
The daughter of Krupt has missed a win or placing in only one of her eight career starts and punters love that consistency.
We’re expecting another top effort.
Race 6. (20:45) Schweppes Shooting Star (1250m)
#3 – Star of Monsoon @ $5.50 – BET NOW
Star of Monsoon was a “gunner” for a long time, but consecutive wins this campaign has the four-year-old heading in the right direction.
The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding took 17 starts to score his first win, but that has given him a confidence boost and he was able to repeat the dose at Gosford last start.
This will be his biggest test for some time, but the former stakes-performed runner should be able to cope and punters are getting good odds.
Race 7. (21:15) Theraces BM79 (1100m)
#6 – Spending to Win @ $3.80 – BET NOW
Spending to Win looked good when running third fresh up at Gosford last start and he usually shows improvement with a run under his belt.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, the four-year-old by Snitzel has won only one of his 11 starts, but he has eight placings to his name.
His third placing last start came behind Star of Monsoon and that form might get franked earlier on the card.
Moonee Valley free tips & form
Race 1. (18:30) Salsas Chip Burrito Plate (1200m)
#4 – Sanctimonious @ $2.70 – BET NOW
Tony McEvoy lines up the two-year-old colt which ran second on debut before hitting the line well enough last start.
The son of Foxwedge ran fifth at Randwick behind Irish Bet and this should be a much easier target for the quality juvenile.
Jockey Craig Williams often rides well early in the card and he could steer the favourite home here.
Race 3. (19:30) Johnny Boys Pizza BM84 (3000m)
#4 – Eyes Are Blue @ $2.05 – BET NOW
These 3000m races are never easy to predict, but Eyes Are Blue looms as the standout play here.
The Darren Weir-trained stayer raced over 2460m last start and scored easily by three lengths at Mornington.
That’s his second staying win in three starts and his breeding suggests that he won’t have any problem seeing out the extreme distance.
Follow the money trail and stick with this runner.
Race 5. (20:30) Schnitz Summer Stayers BM70 (2040m)
#9 – Persian Empire @ $2.65 – BET NOW
We were keen on Persian Empire last start and although beaten, there was plenty of merit in the performance.
The Busuttin/Young-trained runner finished a gallant second and that made it four placings from his last five starts.
He has won during that time, which came at Sale by 4.3 lengths and another performance similar to that should see him winning this.
$2.65 is a fair price and it’s likely to shorten.
Race 8. (22:00) Roll’d BM78 (1200m)
#9 – Alaskan Sun @ $5 – BET NOW
We’ve been keen on this runner every start this campaign and we’re not about to jump off her back now.
The Henry Dwyer-trained mare has placed in all three runs this campaign and she wasn’t far behind some nice types at Caulfield last start.
Moonee Valley is a track where she has placed in two of her three starts and she should get every chance from barrier four with a light weight.
$5 on offer from the bookmakers is a good price and she could end the night on a positive note for punters.
