Flemington free tips & form
Race 1. (13:00) William Newton VC Handicap (2520m)
#5 – Valac – Bet Now
Lindsay Park lines up the seven-year-old stayer, which has finished in the money in 15 of his 23 starts.
That’s a good statistic for this race and he has been knocking on the door after consecutive second placings.
His best form has come on synthetic tracks where he is unbeaten after three starts but he can handle Flemington and should be considered a winning chance in this.
Carrying 54kg helps in this.
Race 2. (13:35) Beersheba Sprint (1000m)
#3 – Invincible Al @ $3.80 – Bet Now
Looked the goods last campaign when winning multiple races and then running six placings from seven starts.
The five-year-old gelding has won two from 12 starts at Flemington, which includes six placings and he should be tough to beat here.
The Patrick Payne-trained runner has a light weight on his back and that should bring him right into contention.
Race 3. (14:10) Anzac Day Stakes (1400m)
#1 – Super Seth – Bet Now
Shaping up to be one of the better bets of the day, Super Seth is a horse that should rise through the grades.
The Anthony Freedman-trained two-year-old has recorded two incredible wins to date and he was a stunning one-length winner at Caulfield last start. He looked gone on the turn but came hard late to win.
That followed up a six-length win on debut and we’re not expecting bookmakers to be offering big odds.
Race 4. (14:45) Peter Armytage Handicap (1710m)
#2 – Declares War @ $7.50 – Bet Now
The three-year-old gelding is dropping in grade for this and he’s going to enjoy running against this opposition.
He looked good when winning three consecutive races earlier this season, including a one-length win at Flemington. That showed off his stunning turn-of-foot and although he has been well-beaten of late, he has class on his side.
Watch for a betting push and he’s a well-liked thoroughbred.
Race 5. (15:25) Auckland Racing Club Trophy (1400m)
#2 – Muswellbrook @ $17 – Bet Now
Muswellbrook doesn’t have the best form line coming into this but he’s a talented gelding on his day.
The Lindsay Park-trained son of Denman has won over $250,000 in stake money and although he has won only one of his 10 starts, he has placed behind some classy types.
That will hold him in good stead for this and despite drawing wide, he could sit three-wide with cover and come with one big run.
Race 6. (16:00) VRC St Leger (2800m)
#1 – Stars of Carrum @ $2.30 – Bet Now
We have been waiting for Stars of Carrum to race over an extreme staying distance and he looks a good chance in the St Leger.
Robbie Laing is a master trainer of stayers and despite being only a one-win colt, that came over 2040m at Moonee Valley.
He then ran second in the VRC Oaks behind Extra Brut and although that form hasn’t stacked up since, he is the best-prepared runner to see out this distance.
Strong winning chance.
Race 7. (16:35) The Les Carlyon (1710m)
#3 – Mantastic @ $2.60 – Bet Now
Chris Waller lines up the five-year-old gelding which was a good winner in Adelaide two back before running second at Bendigo last start.
That was a solid effort behind a nice type and the five-year-old son of Fastnet Rock gets into this race on a good weight of 57kg.
His opening odds of $4.60 have been smashed into $2.60.
Race 8. (15:10) Nancy Wake BM84 (1600m)
#8 – Temple Of Bel @ $3.20 – Bet Now
Tony McEvoy lines up the four-year-old mare which ran a good race for third last start. She ran only a half-length behind the winner and was finishing off strongly.
That’s a good sign of things to come this campaign and facing an easier field will only help her chances.
Drawing barrier 12 makes it tough but she usually gets back and flashes home late.
