Flemington horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (14:25) New Year Sprint (1000m)
#1 – Andalusia – Bet @ Sportsbet
James Cummings lines up the two-year-old filly that did a good job when running second on debut at Bendigo.
The daughter of Brazen Beau finished 1.8 lengths behind Rusheen and we are expecting form out of that race to hold up well this season.
Look for a betting push with this runner in the opening race.
Race 2. (15:00) Welcome 2021 BM70 (2000m)
#8 – Our Chevalier – Bet @ Sportsbet
Our Chevalier looked the goods last campaign when winning three of his last six starts, including his last two.
The four-year-old scored most recently at Moonee Valley and we are expecting that form to hold up nicely at Flemington.
Punters should expect each-way odds from bookies.
Race 3. (15:40) Bagot Handicap (2800m)
#4 – Miyake – Bet @ Sportsbet
Miyake is worth sticking with after back-to-back victories at Warwick Farm and on this track last time out.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old scored by a half-length last start and rising in distance won’t do the son of Deep Impact any harm.
Look for another tidy effort from this progressive stayer.
Race 4. (16:20) Standish Handicap (1200m)
#8 – Defiant Dancer – Bet @ Sportsbet
Defiant Dancer is gunning for his fifth consecutive victory and consecutive victories at Flemington.
The Phillip Stokes-trained gelding scored by three lengths last start and that signaled his ability on the big stage.
Carrying 54kg is a steal and we’re expecting plenty of money to come his way on race day.
Race 5. (17:00) Summer Twilight Series BM78 (1200m)
#1 – Riding The Wave – Bet @ Sportsbet
The former Kiwi finished second behind Defiant Dancer last start, so Race 4 will be a good form guide for this race.
He is a professional five-time winner and he has finished out of the money in only four of his 15 starts. That is an impressive record and he could keep it intact here.
The 3kg claim helps and we expect him to be fighting out the finish.
Race 6. (17:40) Victorian Jockeys Association BM70 (1400m)
#2 – Shahzade – Bet @ Sportsbet
Drawing barrier 14 won’t help Shahzade, but the Freedman-trained mare is capable of producing a minor upset.
She looked good when running second at Pakenham last start and despite her best form coming on rain-affected tracks, she has a win on a good surface.
Getting a 3kg claimer to ride is a bonus and we wouldn’t be surprised to see her win.
Race 7. (18:20) Off The Track Program BM70 (1700m)
#7 – Nikau Spur – Bet @ Sportsbet
Momentum is with Nikau Spur, which got the job done nicely at The Valley last start and he looks like a progressive type.
The son of Proisir scored impressively by 3.8 lengths after showing an electric turn-of-foot. It was a win of a horse going places and we wouldn’t back against him here.
He is a former Kiwi that should enjoy the wide-open spaces of Flemington.
Race 8. (18:55) Australian Trainers Association BM70 (1600m)
#3 – Fundraiser – Bet @ Sportsbet
Fundraiser is shooting for his third consecutive win and punters should get a good sight from the well-bred gelding.
The son of Helmet scored by a length at Mornington before winning by a half-length at Sandown. He faces a harder field this time around, but he is improving.
Look for each-way odds from bookmakers.
