Flemington horse racing tips

Race 1. (12:35) New Year Sprint (1000m)

#1 – Kin @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Kin comes off a second placing at Flemington and that form looks good for this contest.

The James Cummings-trained filly had solid betting support on debut and she didn’t have much luck when getting held up.

Having Jamie Kah in the saddle should help her chances.

Race 2. (13:10) Fields of Omagh BM70 (1400m)

#3 – Stay Gold @ $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Stay Gold scored a gutsy win at Moonee Valley two back before running fifth at Caulfield last Sunday.

She was there to win the race, but they ran a quick time and we think this is a slightly easier contest on Saturday.

Punters get value odds for a runner off the inside draw.

Race 3. (13:45) Victorian Jockeys’ Association BM70 (1600m)

#7 – Vardani @ $7.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Vardani turned his form around when scoring by four lengths at Warrnambool and we think he can kick on with it.

The five-year-old son of Charm Spirit has yet to fire over this distance, but he joined in for fun last start and that came over 1700m.

Punters get value odds worth taking.

Race 4. (14:20) Aust Trainers Association BM70 (1100m)

#2 – Squid Game @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

We like what we have seen from Squid Game, who scored on debut at Sandown before lifting late to win at Flemington.

The Patrick Payne-trained ran the fastest last 200m and we’re surprised the son of Shooting to Win isn’t shorter with bookmakers.

The favourite will be tough to beat, but Squid Game has the green light.

Race 5. (15:00) Henry Byron Moore BM84 (1600m)

#2 – Bermadez @ $2.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Mike Moroney lines up the five-year-old gelding who finished second behind the talented Lighthouse last time out.

The son of Tavistock looked good winning his first two starts this preparation, including a win at Flemington.

The big straight allows him to warm up and we’re not surprised by the short odds available.

Race 6. (15:40) George Watson BM70 (2000m)

#13 – La Spezia @ $10 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Jamie Edwards lines up the four-year-old mare who owns three wins from eight starts.

The daughter of Toronado scored consecutive wins at Warrnambool and Moonee Valley before running only 1.8 lengths behind them last start.

It’s no easier here, but with Craig Williams, we’re happy to take the $10.

Race 7. (16:20) Bagot Handicap (2800m)

#2 – Smokin’ Romans @ $2.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Smokin’ Romans has been in work for a long time but we’re not jumping off his back.

The Maher/Eustace-trained five-year-old owns seven wins and six placings from 18 starts, including a win at Pakenham by two lengths.

Getting the inside draw is ideal and a repeat could be on the cards.

Race 8. (17:00) Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m)

#9 – Lighthouse @ $2.35 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The former American has made it look easy since arriving in Australia. She has won all three starts, including a win over Bermadez at Flemington last start.

The daughter of Mizzen Mast is a nice type on the rise, and with six wins from 12 starts, she has been an excellent bet.

Carrying 54kg is a steal and she’s one of the better bets of the day.

Race 9. (17:40) Santa Ana Lane BM78 (1200m)

#14 – Capriccio @ $8 – Bet @ Sportsbet

We were keen on Capriccio last time out when finishing fifth, but it was still a nice effort.

The four-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible owns a win and a placing at Flemington, so the long straight is ideal.

She is worth backing at the each-way odds.
