Flemington horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (15:30) Tick Homes Maiden Plate (1000m)
#6 – Oxley Road @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Oxley Road is on debut for Peter Moody and there is plenty of betting support coming his way. The three-year-old colt is a well-related brother to Exceedance, so he has a lot to live up to.
He looked good in New Zealand before coming to Australia and winning two jumpouts at Pakenham.
Drawing wide down the Flemington straight isn’t too bad, so expect a positive effort from the favourite.
Race 2. (16:00) Firstly Home BM64 (1000m)
#1 – Diesel ‘n’ Dust @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The three-year-old gelding owns a win and four placings from eight starts, and three of those placings came at this distance.
He is a talented son of Pride of Dubai and after placing at Moonee Valley and Sandown to prepare for this race, he looks ready to fire.
$5 is a value price from bookmakers.
Race 3. (16:30) Winslow Construction Dash BM70 (1000m)
#10 – Modear @ $3.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Modear scored a quality win at Sandown three starts back and her subsequent runs have been solid.
The Patrick Payne-trained mare has since finished fifth behind Riding The Wave at Caulfield and third behind Absolute Flirt at Flemington.
Craig Williams rides here, and the $3.10 is a value price.
Race 4. (17:00) Eynesbury Golf BM64 (1100m)
#5 – Zipping Boy @ $3.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Zipping Boy needs luck from the wide draw, but after winning by 2.8 lengths at Sale last start, he has plenty of upside.
The Jerome Hunter-trained gelding is unbeaten in two starts at this distance, and he has shown good speed throughout his career.
His odds are holding steady with bookmakers, so watch for any late betting moves on race day.
Race 5. (17:30) Eynesbury Estate 0MW (1200m)
#7 – Knowles @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Knowles doesn’t have any recent winning form, but she went close at Sandown last start and that form stacks up nicely.
The four-year-old owns plenty of experience at Flemington, and drawing barrier two should see her figure in the finish again.
Punters get value odds and they should shorten significantly on race day.
Race 6. (18:00) PSP Property Group BM70 (1200m)
#11 – Japery @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Japery comes off an impressive win down the Flemington straight, and the form out of that contest is strong.
The Payne-trained three-year-old won by four lengths in an effortless display, and it didn’t come against an easy field.
The son of Sizzling has always shown an ability to win at high levels, so the performance could open the gate for more success this season.
$5 is a value price from bookmakers, and his odds should firm.
Race 7. (16:30) Resimax Group Jockeys Challenge BM64 (1200m)
#9 – Wide Awake @ $6.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Wide Awake did enough when finishing fourth fresh up at Caulfield, which came behind subsequent Caulfield winner, Elderflower.
The form stacks up brilliantly and although she’s giving away a fair amount of experience to some of these, she has more upside than most.
The 3kg coming off her back brings her into contention, and we’re surprised at the $6.50 odds available. We thought she would be around the $4 mark, so take the value available.
