Flemington horse racing tips

Race 1. (11:55) The Belzoni BM90 (1000m)

#1 – Ashlor @ $5 – Bet Now

Carrying such a big weight isn’t ideal for Ashlor, but he gets a claimer in the saddle and running over the short distance helps.

The six-year-old scored a win at Moonee Valley two starts back before finishing fourth behind Jungle Edge last start.

That is top form and this field isn’t very deep.

Race 2. (12:30) The Melbourne Town Plate (1200m)

#4 – Proper Rogue @ $3.30 – Bet Now

Proper Rogue is a proper racehorse that owns two wins and three second placings from only five starts.

The Price/Kent-trained gelding is coming off a good run for second at Caulfield where he finished off stylishly over the concluding stages.

Having Damien Oliver in the saddle helps and the odds are reflective of his ability.

Race 3. (13:05) Byerley Handicap (1800m)

#1 – Alcyone @ $1.85 – Bet Now

Short odds are available for Alcyone and there was plenty to like about his most recent run. He finished second behind unbeaten the Cherry Tortini, which is stacking up to be good form.

The James Cummings-trained colt settles back in the run so he does rely on luck, but Flemington is a big track and that suits.

He could be the class runner of this field and a win isn’t far away.

Race 4. (13:40) RMBL Investments BM90 (1400m)

#11 – Soaring Eagle @ $8.50 – Bet Now

Soaring Eagle runs at each-way odds and punters are getting good value. The four-year-old mare produced a good effort to run third at big odds last start, so stick with her.

She is only a three-time winner from 31 starts but her 12 placings are a good form guide for this race. She runs consistent races and with the place odds of $2.80, that is good value.

Race 5. (14:20) Flemington Cup 1849 (2800m)

#7 – Sin to Win @ $6.50 – Bet Now

Sin to Win is costing punters some coin this season but we are keeping the faith. The Lindsay Park-trained gelding has won over a half million in stakes and that shouldn’t be overlooked.

He was only 1.2 lengths from the winner at Flemington last start and facing a bigger field only helps his chances.

Look for another solid effort at each-way odds.

Race 6. (15:00) Tab Trainers’ Trust Handicap (1600m)

#2 – Mr Cancun @ $5.50 – Bet Now

Mr Cancun produced a terrific performance to win at Geelong last start and he could take that form to the city.

The Les Smith-trained gelding sat wide throughout and still managed to win by 2.5 lengths. It was a dominant display and despite carrying 60kg here, he should go close.

The $5.50 is a great price from bookmakers.

Race 7. (15:40) James Dunbar’s Flemington Inn (1600m)

#7 – Danon Roman @ $4.20 – Bet Now

The former Japanese runner was in fine form last start when scoring a half-length win at Flemington.

He is a son of Deep Impact that has promised to rise to another level and he could score consecutive wins on this track.

Flemington gives him time to fully wind up and we fancy his chances again.

Race 8. (16:15) Happy Retirement Pat Hyland (2000m)

#7 – Mirimar @ $5.50 – Bet Now

Looking to go back-to-back is Mirimar, which scored a quality win at Caulfield. The Mike Moroney-trained gelding sat just off the pace and kicked too strongly for Sircconi.

That form has since been franked and it pays to follow runners from this stable when they hit top form.

Punters are getting odds worth taking with this runner.

Race 9. (16:48) Flemington Trainers Staff BM78 (1200m)

#8 – Our Wind Spirit @ $3.70 – Bet Now

Our Wind Spirit continues to win after posting his fourth consecutive win. The Smith-trained gelding makes the rise to city grade after winning at Geelong and he has the ability to handle it.

He kicked away from the field to win by 1.3 lengths last start and he deserves his chance at Flemington on Saturday.

We’re expecting a sizable market push come race day.
