Flemington horse racing tips
Race 1. (11:40) Rogan Josh Stayers BM84 (2500m)
#7 – Shepard – Bet Now
Peter Moody lines up the rising stayer that owns four wins from seven starts. The four-year-old won by 2.8 lengths last start and he has more wins to come.
Drawing barrier 13 isn’t ideal but it shouldn’t matter over this distance and the long Flemington straight looks ideal.
Race 2. (12:15) Tom Melbourne Trophy (1400m)
#1 – Khoekhoe – Bet Now
Khoekhoe is coming off a big win in a big prize money race last time out. The Matt Cumani-trained colt stormed home to win at Caulfield and that form should stack up nicely.
He’s heading in the right direction and he should get conditions to suit on Saturday. Any easier of the track shouldn’t worry him one bit.
Race 3. (12:50) Redkirk Warrior Trophy BM78 (1400m)
#5 – Debt’n’deficit – Bet Now
The three-year-old filly is coming off a terrific win at Flemington and she’s capable of going back-to-back.
She is a daughter of Foxwedge that look some time to win her second race, but the confidence is up now and that bodes well.
Race 4. (13:30) Almandin BM78 (1100m)
#12 – Alfa Oro – Bet Now
Alfa Oro continues to win after posting three wins and two second placings from five starts. The Matt Laurie-trained gelding won by two lengths last start and he deserves a chance in this grade.
It’s his first run against this level of opposition but he handles all conditions and he should find a good spot from the draw.
Race 5. (14:05) Efficient Handicap (2000m)
#5 – Tooradin @ $5.50 – Bet Now
Tooradin didn’t lose any admirers when running second last start and he could go one better this time around.
The Maher/Eustace-trained son of Americain looks like a nice stayer in the making and he should love running at Flemington.
$5.50 is a fair price from bookmakers and we are expecting those odds to drop.
Race 6. (14:45) Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m)
#2 – Malibu Style @ $8 – Bet Now
It has been a long time between drinks for Malibu Style but he’s capable of pulling off a minor upset here.
The Neville Parnham-trained gelding is an 11-time winner and 21-time placegetter. He’s got class on his side and at the odds, he’s worth a play.
Take the $8 as those odds should drop.
Race 7. (15:25) Brew’s Anniversary BM84 (1800m)
#10 – Aussie Nugget @ $3.40 – Bet Now
Anthony Freedman lines up the four-year-old gelding that has been a model of consistency this season.
The four-year-old opened at $4.20 and has firmed throughout the week. That’s a good sign following a second placing at Caulfield.
He handles all conditions and we’re predicting another tidy effort.
Race 8. (16:05) Apache Cat Handicap (1600m)
#13 – Shot of Irish @ $3.10 – Bet Now
Shot of Irish is seeking his third consecutive win after posting wins at Sandown and Caulfield.
The eight-time winner has turned his form around nicely this season and he has every chance of winning again.
It’s his first start at Flemington, which is a worry, but he should be able to handle it.
Race 9. (16:38) Living Legends Plate (1100m)
#5 – Alburq @ $8.50 – Bet Now
Alburq is knocking on the door after back-to-back placings and this stable is firing nicely this season.
The Mike Moroney-trained gelding handled the heavy track well and he should be able to get a good run from barrier eight.
He’s a past winner on this track and that helps.
