We have expert betting tips for the card this Saturday at Flemington, which features nine quality betting races.
Derby Day is one of the greatest betting cards on the calendar. Punters get nine of the best races to bet on and we have tips for all nine.
We have previewed the four Group 1’s separately, but the other five races present punters with great betting opportunities.
Flemington horse racing tips
Race 1. (11:45) TAB Stakes (1200m)
#4 – Zoutori @ $2.15 – Bet Now
Zoutori has a very nice future and his most recent run was testament to that. He finished a close third behind Sunlight and Santa Ana Lane.
That’s Everest-type form and there are no Group 1 contenders in this race. He’s a class act with five wins and four placings from 15 starts.
He has missed a placing only once from five attempts at Flemington and with two wins on the surface, he should enjoy conditions.
Having Craig Williams in the saddle isn’t going to hurt his chances either.
Race 2. (12:20) G.H Mumm Wakeful Stakes (2000m)
#5 – Vegas Jewel @ $3.30 – Bet Now
Vegas Jewel was beaten last start but certainly not disgraced. The three-year-old filly finished a close second behind Garnay.
That’s good form for this race and she didn’t get all luck throughout the run either. She was caught a little wide at the back of the field and was asked to do too much.
Her form prior included consecutive wins and she was especially good when winning by 2.5 lengths at Moonee Valley.
Tough opposition here but she’s an exciting prospect.
Race 3. (13:00) Carbine Club Stakes (1600m)
#2 – Groundswell @ $3.60 – Bet Now
That was a terrific run in the Guineas last time out when battling on nicely to run third behind Super Seth.
The Anthony Freedman-trained colt was a winner at Geelong three back and he has since run two impressive placings.
He deserves another win and the son of Fastnet Rock is bred to be better than average.
$3.60 is a fair price from bookmakers and from barrier two, we’re expecting him to settle close and kick hard once again.
Race 4. (13:40) Lexus Hotham Stakes (2500m)
#1 – Downdraft @ $4.80 – Bet Now
Downdraft battled away nicely at The Valley last start when running third behind Hunting Horn.
The Joseph O’Brien-trained European has six wins from 17 starts throughout his career and we liked what we saw last week.
He’s trying to get into the Melbourne Cup and the son of Camelot wouldn’t look out of place in the field.
However, a win is needed here and we think he should go close.
Race 9. (17:15) Furphy Sprint (1100m)
#4 – Pippie @ $4.20 – Bet Now
Pippie will need to rebound after failing at Caulfield in September, but she has been given a freshen up for this.
Her form prior to that run was fantastic. The daughter of Written Tycoon won three consecutive races, including one at Caulfield by three lengths.
She likes to ride the speed and drawing wide down the Flemington straight isn’t the worse place to be.
$4.20 is worth taking.
