We have expert betting tips for the card this Saturday at Flemington that features nine quality betting races.
It’s Derby Day in Melbourne, which is one of the best betting days of the year. We have our best value bets for every race on the card.
Flemington Derby Day horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:20) Paramount Carbine Club Stakes (1600m)
#11 – Fangirl @ $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Chris Waller-trained filly is searching for three wins on the bounce after scoring at Goulburn and Randwick.
Her last-start win at Randwick featured some luck, but the three-year-old daughter of Sebring was strong to the line.
We expect Sydney form to stack up nicely, and Waller wouldn’t bring her to Melbourne without thinking she’s a winning hope. She could have the Oaks in mind during Cup Week, so watch for her there as well.
Race 2. (13:00) Lexus Hotham Stakes (2500m)
#7 – Mankayan @ $3.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet
We’re not going to jump off Mankayan’s back now after posting five consecutive placings.
The import owns two wins and nine placings from 13 starts, so he’s not lacking consistency, but we need him to break through soon.
He made a good impression at his only start at Flemington, so the long straight looks ideal. We’re prepared to stick with him for one more run.
He’s likely to be well-backed in early betting markets. We have seen his support fluctuate on race day, which will be the case until he wins a race.
Race 3. (13:40) Wakeful Stakes (2000m)
#1 – Yearning @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Yearning won the Thousand Guineas in fine style and the Hawkes-trained filly could double down.
She scored an upset win by a length, and her turn-of-foot was good to see. She technically drops in grade for this race, so she should be able to handle the field.
Early betting markets will be a good betting guide, but she should attract plenty of attention on race day. She has class on her side and punters should show her respect.
Race 4. (14:20) Tab Linlithgow Stakes (1200m)
#3 – Instant Celebrity @ $8.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Instant Celebrity has been facing tough fields and we’re sticking with the four-year-old to come through for punters.
She is a five-time winner from 11 starts, and she has won at high levels. Her form at Flemington isn’t ideal, but it hasn’t come with much luck.
Drawing barrier five down the straight should work and she should get on a back of a runner.
Race 9. (17:50) Furphy Sprint (1100m)
#5 – Minhaaj @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
It was hard not to be impressed with Minhaaj at Randwick last start. The four-year-old scored by a length against a talented field, and she could kick on with it now.
The mare by Exceed and Excel showed a good turn-of-foot, which is needed to win races down the Flemington straight.
She has drawn in barrier four, which means jockey James McDonald will need to work his way off the inside and come down centre track.
We are confident of a big run.
