Flemington horse racing tips
Race 1. (12:30) Tab Long May We Play Plate (2500m)
#1 – Pondus – Bet @ Sportsbet
Tooradin will be tough to beat, but Pondus looks to have a bright future. The former European has had two starts in Australia for two placings, so he’s getting close.
He finished second at Bendigo behind Princess Jenni before finishing a length behind True Self at Flemington. That experience is ideal, and he’s good enough to carry the big weight to victory.
Punters should look for a market push.
Race 2. (13:05) Exford Plate (1400m)
#1 – Artorius – Bet @ Sportsbet
Artorius should have won at Caulfield last start, but the three-year-old colt is likely to be well-supported on Saturday.
The Freedman-trained son of Flying Artie rattled home from last to finish a short margin behind Bruckner. It was the hard luck story of the day, and he should make amends.
Barrier six is ideal, so expect jockey Luke Currie to settle him much closer.
Race 3. (13:40) Winning Edge Poseidon Stakes (1100m)
#2 – Ingratiating @ $1.95 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The James Cummings-trained colt showed his ability when beating a quality field at Caulfield last start. He got the better of the likes of General Beau, which is no easy feat.
He is now a three-time winner from eight starts, and his future this spring looks bright. Ingratiating loves this track and he’s unbeaten in two starts over the distance.
The odds-on quote is not a surprise, so put him on top.
Race 4. (14:15) Cap D’antibes Stakes (1100m)
#5 – Crystal Bound @ $3.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Crystal Bound finished second behind Jamaea last start, which is excellent form given the way she won last Saturday.
The three-year-old filly made an impression on debut when scoring by six lengths at Moonee Valley, which can’t be ignored.
It was a powerful win, and despite having not raced since April, she could return in fine order.
Race 5. (14:55) The Sofitel (1400m)
#2 – Ayrton @ $1.75 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Ayrton is a five-time winner from six starts and the son of Iffraaj looks to have many more wins on the horizon.
He got the job done at Caulfield last start without being overly impressive, but it was a nice hit-out after a two-month break.
Punters should expect the odds-on favourite to be much stronger this time around, so we’re happy with the odds available.
Race 6. (15:35) Furphy Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m)
#1 – Instant Celebrity @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The four-year-old mare is a Group 1 type that has the class edge over this field, so she only needs luck from the wide barrier.
She comes off a third placing behind Probabeel, and the form out of that race will stack up for the rest of the spring carnival.
Craig Williams will need to work his magic, but we’re confident of a big effort.
Race 7. (16:15) Lexus Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m)
#9 – Away Game @ $7 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Away Game is always a winning threat, and the four-year-old mare will enjoy carrying 53kg for this race.
She beat a nice field at Eagle Farm two starts back before attacking the line for second behind Pintoff at Caulfield last month.
There is little wrong with that form line and punters get value odds for a quality runner.
Race 9. (17:25) Very Special Kids Handicap (1700m)
#2 – Persan – Bet @ Sportsbet
The distance might be short of his best, but Persan has good fresh up stats, and he can’t be overlooked.
He is a seven-time winner and four-time winner at Flemington, so the long straight is ideal. He has time to find his feet in the straight before launching a claim.
Barrier four is ideal to find a good position, so we’re taking the risk, and punters should get each-way odds.
