Friday horse racing tips
Race 2. (13:00) Bendigo Magazine Maiden (1400m)
#13 – Star of Leon @ $8 – Bet Now
Star of Leon hasn’t shown much to date but he drops right back in grade for this and he is being specked at odds.
The Corstens-trained two-year-old finished last at Flemington coming into this race and dropping to maiden class is ideal.
He could turn that form around and pay a nice price.
Race 3. (13:30) No Fuss Event Hire Maiden (1600m)
#13 – Sweet Gold @ $3.90 – Bet Now
We have been patiently waiting for Sweet Gold to break her maiden status after nine placings from 11 starts.
The four-year-old is trained by Chris Waller and after making up good ground at Ballarat last start, she deserves a winning turn.
Getting the inside draw is ideal and we’re expecting a top effort.
Race 4. (14:00) Bet365 Racing Refunds BM64 (2400m)
#3 – Cracksman @ $4.40 – Bet Now
Cracksman made good ground to score last time out at Morphettville and he won’t find this any harder.
The Danny O’Brien-trained stayer didn’t look likely to score but he finished off best in the soft track conditions. It should hold him in good stead and punters get good odds here.
Race 6. (15:00) RMBL Investment BM64 (1300m)
#6 – Lake’s Folly @ $2.15 – Bet Now
Lake’s Folly was beaten at Morphettville last start but there were encouraging signs throughout the run.
The Anthony Freedman-trained runner finished stoutly to run second and that followed some good efforts, which included a win at Sale.
Drawn wide but he drops back and storms home late.
Race 8. (16:00) Bendigo Greyhounds Cup BM64 (1100m)
#12 – La Lucciola @ $3.80 – Bet Now
Resuming after a break is La Lucciola, which scored a maiden win at Sandown before feeling the pinch last time out.
The three-year-old filly owns good barrier speed and that should win her plenty of races. She meets only an even field here and jumping from barrier five is ideal.
$3.80 is a good price from bookmakers.
Race 2. (12:50) Thebrookracing Maiden (1280m)
#2 – Contango @ $3.10 – Bet Now
Paul Messara lines up the three-year-old gelding that owns two placings from seven starts. He finished seventh at Scone last start, but that track doesn’t suit all runners.
Heading to Muswellbrook should be ideal for the son of Dundeel and it’s only a matter of time before he produces the goods.
Take the $3.10 as his odds are shortening.
Race 3. (13:25) TAB Long May We Play BM66 (1280m)
#3 – Derby Star @ $2.50 – Bet Now
Derby Star is looking for a quick bounce-back effort following a poor run at Newcastle. He looked better when running fifth at Randwick in the Highway Handicap, so that is a better form guide.
He is a three-time winner from only 12 starts, so the ability is there and we’re prepared to give him another chance.
Race 4. (14:05) Great Northern Super Crisp Maiden (1000m)
#14 – Zanshin @ $2.80 – Bet Now
It won’t take long for Zanshin for rise through the grades and she could pick up her maiden win here.
The Kris Lees-trained two-year-old finished within a half-length of the winner at Port Macquarie last start and she didn’t lose any admirers.
The daughter of Dawn Approach handles wet tracks so conditions won’t be an issue.
Race 7. (15:55) Calyx @ Coolmore C1 Handicap (1000m)
#2 – Halcyon House @ $3.40 – Bet Now
Halcyon House has yet to finish worse than fourth from five starts and there is plenty to like about that form.
The Morgan-trained three-year-old ran fourth at Scone last start and he made up a stack of ground in the straight.
Facing this field won’t be any harder and the short odds reflect his chances.
