Moonee Valley Race Tips

Race 1. (17:15) Four’n Twenty Plate (1200m)

#1 – He’s Xceptional – Bet @ Sportsbet

He’s Xceptional was exceptional when winning at Moonee Valley two starts back. He defeated a quality field before running fourth behind Mr Mozart and Artorius last start.

It’s stellar form for this level of racing and having had three starts at Moonee Valley holds him in good stead for Friday night’s race.

Barrier two is another positive.

Race 2. (17:45) MSC Signs BM84 (1200m)

#9 – Lombardo – Bet @ Sportsbet

Lombardo faces a rise in class after winning at Morphettville last start, but it was a dominant effort.

The five-year-old son of I Am Invincible scored by 5.5 lengths over some solid handicap types, so he should be able to handle this class.

Dropping to 52.5kg is ideal and he should get every chance from barrier two. He goes on top in an even field.

Race 3. (18:15) Aspect Kitchens Stutt Stakes (1600m)

#1 – Mr Mozart @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Mr Mozart comes off a stunning win at Flemington last start where he defeated Artorius in a driving finish.

The three-year-old colt by Snitzel showed good form in Sydney before coming to Melbourne with big race wins in mind. He proved too tough last start and that form bodes well.

Team Hawkes is always tough to beat when they bring runners to Melbourne from Sydney.

Race 4. (18:45) Piper Heidsieck Scarborough Stakes (1200m)

#4 – Flying Evelyn – Bet @ Sportsbet

We were impressed with the run of Flying Evelyn at Flemington last start when finishing second behind Crystal Bound.

It was a good showed after running fifth at Bendigo, so the three-year-old handled the rise in class in style.

Having Brett Prebble in the saddle helps with the wide draw, so expect Flying Evelyn to be finishing fast down the outside.

Race 5. (19:15) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge BM84 (955m)

#5 – Alleboom – Bet @ Sportsbet

Alleboom got the job done at Morphettville last start and the four-year-old can repeat the dose on Friday.

The son of Spirit of Boom has yet to race at The Valley, but it’s a track that should suit his go-forward running style.

Craig Williams rides and he knows Moonee Valley well, so punters should get value each-way odds for Alleboom.

Race 6. (19:45) Steamatic JRA Cup (2040m)

#3 – Defibrillate @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The former Kiwi is on track for the Melbourne Cup, but winning races like the JRA Cup are needed to make the field.

He finished second at Flemington behind Floating Artist last start and that will be a good form guide for future staying races this preparation.

He is a three-time winner at the distance, so running over 2040m is no problem. Getting barrier five is another positive, so there is plenty in his favour on Friday night.

Race 8. (20:45) Ladbrokes Stocks Stakes (1600m)

#9 – So You Assume – Bet @ Sportsbet

So You Assume is shooting for three consecutive wins after scoring at Moonee Valley and Caulfield at her last two starts.

She won by four lengths on this track in July and followed it up with a narrow victory at Caulfield, which is a solid form guide.

It’s not an easy field, but punters should get value odds for So You Assume.
