Race 1. (12:57) Coopers Brewery BM78 (2100m)
#1 – Midnight Mass @ $2.15
Midnight Mass is knocking on the door of a win after three consecutive second placings at Gawler and Morphettville.
The six-year-old son of Priosir owns two second placings from two starts at the track, and having that experience is ideal.
Getting 2kg off his back only helps his chances.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (13:32) Same Race Multi Maiden (1500m)
#2 – Commissions @ $3.70
Commissions is getting close to breaking through after consecutive placings at Gawler and Strathalbyn.
The Michael Hickmott-trained gelding was only a short margin behind Lady Skylla last time out, and a repeat should take it close.
It could pay to follow any positive betting moves.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 3. (14:07) Gawler Arms Hotel BM78 (1500m)
#4 – Hasseltoff @ $3.00
Seeking consecutive wins is Hasseltoff, who was too good for them at Morphettville last time out.
The eight-year-old son of Toorak Toff owns five wins and 16 placings overall, and the grand old campaigner is worth backing again.
This race is there for the taking, so include him in picks.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 4. (14:42) Holdfast Insurance Brokers (1200m)
#7 – Rich Gina @ $14.00
Rich Gina is better than what she has shown this preparation, but we’re giving her one more chance.
The daughter of Rich Enuff is a four-time winner from 25 starts, and she handles all track conditions, which is always a positive.
Dropping to 51kg is a positive.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 5. (15:17) Matrix Solar Solutions BM66 (1100m)
#5 – Ad Astra @ $1.95
Ad Astra finished second in two career starts last campaign and she’s good enough to kick things off with a win on Saturday.
The three-year-old filly by Tassort placed at Morphettville and Murray Bridge, and she comes off a trial win at Oakbank.
Getting the inside draw is enough to see her prevail.
Stake: 3.5 Units
Race 6. (15:57) Contract Engineering BM68 (1100m)
#1 – Deepfloat Diva @ $3.00
Team Jolly lines up Deepfloat Diva, who owns four wins and two placings from nine starts.
The four-year-old son of Deep Field comes off a third at Morphettville, and he’s good enough to carry the top weight to victory.
He’s a proven winner and easily good enough to beat this field.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (16:32) Kingsford Hotel BM64 (1700m)
#2 – Silent Don @ $21.00
Consistency isn’t with Silent Don, but he’s a past winner at Gawler and he looked good winning earlier this prep at Morphettville.
The seven-year-old son of Dundeel is a seven-time winner overall, and getting 2kg off his back adds to his appeal.
Barrier five is ideal and he’s an each-way hope.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 8. (17:12) Crane Services C2 (1200m)
#7 – Eroica @ $3.00
Looking to remain unbeaten is Eroica, who won at Strathalbyn before winning at Gawler last time out.
The five-year-old daughter of Vadamos has since been primed with two trials, including a win at Oakbank by a half-length.
Barrier 13 doesn’t help her chances, but we’re prepared to take the risk.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 9. (18:00) Bronwen Darrall Memorial Handicap (1500m)
#3 – Falaise @ $7.00
Apart from his fresh up failure, Falaise has been right around the mark with a win and three placings.
The five-year-old son of Akeed Mofeed has experience running at Gawler, and although he didn’t fire, he’s good enough to bounce back.
He will get back in the run and hit the line strongly.
Stake: 1 Unit
