Natural Ruler has had two runs in Australia for one placing, which came last time out at Mornington behind Giggenbach.
We expect that form to stack up nicely against this field, and it doesn’t often take long for Europeans to win in Australia.
Mark Zahra is an in-form jockey, so that is another positive.
Stake: 2 Units
Sea Poem couldn’t make it three consecutive wins last start when running fifth at Sandown, but we expect a much better effort here.
The four-year-old mare by Pierata owns three wins from seven starts, including a win at her only start at Geelong.
Getting the inside draw could be all she needs to get back to winning form.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Looking to post a fresh up win is Otago, who owns two wins and two placings from six starts, and there is nothing wrong with that record.
He is a proven fresh up performer, and although he didn’t win in two starts last campaign, he placed behind King Zephyr and Roadcone.
That’s a good form guide, so expect money to come for him.
Stake: 2.5 Units
There was good betting support for Lope de Largo fresh up at Cranbourne, and despite running fourth, we thought he hit the line well.
The three-year-old will only be fitter for that run under his belt, and we expect a solid betting push for him with Craig Williams riding.
This race is there for the taking, so he has every chance to score.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Highvol will appreciate the drop in class after running poorly in the Caulfield Guineas behind Autumn Boy.
He has been facing tough fields throughout the year, and although punters might jump off him because of his Caulfield run, he should bounce back.
Class is on his side, so he deserves another chance.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Emphasize has improved with every run this preparation, including a fourth at The Valley last time out.
The four-year-old son of Embellish was only 1.9 lengths behind the winner, so he’s nearing a victory, and it could come on Wednesday.
It’s another premium ride for Williams, who could have a successful day.
Stake: 1 Unit
Gilded Water opened at $2.20 before drifting, but we believe he’s the best stayer in the Geelong Cup, and he wants a spot in the Melbourne Cup.
He wasn’t able to be restrained by Jamie Kah in the Bart Cummings, and he did well just to run third given how hard he went out.
With 54kg on his back, he should settle better and be too tough for them. For those playing quinellas, include Whiskey on the Hill, who was desperately unlucky last start.
Stake: 3 Units
Looking to keep the picket fence form going is Proved, who went unbeaten in five starts last preparation.
The wins didn’t come against overly tough opposition, but the five-year-old mare has every chance to remain unbeaten on Wednesday.
The likes of Persian Spirit won’t be easy to beat, but if she gets luck from out wide, she should figure in the finish.
Stake: 1 Unit
Fridge Monster keeps winning this preparation after posting three wins from his last four starts.
The son of Overshare dug deep to score at Sale last time out, and a repeat of that effort is enough to beat this field.
He’s likely to roll forward from the draw and give a good kick.
Stake: 1 Unit
