George Ryder Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Think About It (Best Bet – $3.60)
We thought he might have needed the fresh up run and we were right.
He found the line well enough, and he’s one of the better thoroughbreds in Australia, so he’s good enough to win the George Ryder Stakes.
(2) Cepheus ($201.00)
Not running nearly well enough to compete at this level, hence the big odds.
(3) Pericles ($18.00)
Better for recent racing, and he has yet to finish worse than second in three starts at Rosehill.
Hugh Bowman returns from Hong Kong, and he’s entrusted with the ride.
(4) Kovalica ($16.00)
Better for his fresh up run, and jumping from a wide barrier won’t help his chances. We need much bigger odds.
(5) Golden Mile ($41.00)
We have always liked backing him, but this might not be the race for him. Wait for a more suitable race.
(6) Navajo Peak ($151.00)
The odds are big and rightfully so. It would be a big upset.
(7) Unspoken ($41.00)
Went on a good winning streak last preparation, but they didn’t come at the top level.
He will roll forward but wait to back him in something easier.
(8) Bandersnatch ($201.00)
Not running well enough to test this field.
(9) Loch Eagle ($61.00)
Never too far away from the prize, but he’s another runner who could struggle with the intensity of this race.
(10) Mighty Ulysses ($18.00)
A former European having his first Australian start. His best form in Europe bodes well, and they should always be included at the price.
(11) New Energy (Best Roughie – $18.00)
Another form European, who finished second behind Phearson in his Australian debut.
Harder here, but he’s fitter, and ready to show his best form.
(12) Amenable ($18.00)
He ran well for second at Flemington last start, but he was the beaten short-priced favourite.
Punters get better odds now, and he might have saved for the bigger race on Saturday.
(13) Williamsburg ($251.00)
Big odds and we can’t see him getting close enough in these conditions.
(14) Cosmic Vega ($34.00)
Has form around New Energy in Europe. Wasn’t purchased for overly much, and we would prefer to see him race.
(15) Lady Laguna ($9.50)
Won the Canterbury Stakes last time out and she’s in the form of her life.
She needs to rise to another level once again, but we’re not leaving her out of selections at each-way odds.
(16) Militarize (Best Each Way – $5.00)
Second behind Celestial Legend last start, which is only age-group form. However, he’s a strong colt who has McDonald riding.
We expect his power to be enough to see him in the finish.
(17) Veight ($9.50)
A lovely type, but we’re not sure if Melbourne form is best for this race. Yet to race at Rosehill, which is another concern.
(18) Encap ($8.00)
Only a one-race winner, but with seven placings from 10 starts, he’s never too far from the prize.
Drawn well and punters get each-way odds, but we’re prepared to leave him out against this level of opposition.
(19) Tiz Invincible ($34.00)
Hasn’t come up this preparation and we’re happy to leave her out.
