A terrific edition of the George Ryder Stakes awaits this Saturday at Rosehill. A quality field of nine contests the Group 1 over 1500m, where the Kiwis hold sway in the betting.
Te Akau Shark is the hot favourite to win, but the likes of Super Seth, Alizee, and Dreamforce are out to cause an upset.
We have our best bets and value runners for the 2020 George Ryder Stakes.

George Ryder Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Happy Valley ($16) Bet Now
The old boy is back for another go and we couldn’t completely rule him out. However, he’s a nine-year-old now and his best racing days could be behind him.
The multiple Group 1 winner has been in the money in 30 of his 46 starts, so odds suggest he’ll finish in the first three home.
If that’s the case, the $3.60 to place is good money, but he’s up against some very smart types which should have too much speed for him.
2. Te Akau Shark (Best Bet – $2.10) Bet Now
Te Akau Shark is the form and most exciting runner coming into this race. He was scintillating when winning the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes last start.
His turn-of-foot is better than most runners in Australia at the moment, and the Kiwi star could continue the run of Te Akau and Opie Bosson.
The only downside is the size of the field, as the race could get tactical, but he deserves to be the best-backed runner in the field.
3. The Bostonian ($7.50) Bet Now
Another Kiwi runner, The Bostonian is coming off a win in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick. He extended his fresh up record to six wins from seven starts, and his second-up record isn’t bad either.
He has three wins from six second-up starts, so he’s not without a chance. Our only worry is the distance of 1500m, which he’s yet to race over.
The only time he’s been over more distance came over a mile behind Melody Belle in New Zealand. He finished fifth on that occasion, but it was a solid effort.
4. Dreamforce ($8.50) Bet Now
Dreamforce needs to rebound after running a disappointing race in the Chipping Norton Stakes. The seven-year-old hasn’t been winning that often recently, but he’s an 11-time winner that should be respected.
His record at Rosehill consists of eight starts for two wins and five placings, so that’s another positive for the John Thompson-trained runner.
We can’t have him in selections at the price, but consider if he gets out to $10 or higher.
5. Best of Days ($26) Bet Now
Best of Days’ best days could be behind him. The Cummings-trained six-year-old didn’t produce much when last in work and he doesn’t usually fire fresh up.
We’re confident he won’t be figuring in the finish in the George Ryder Stakes, but at least punters are getting good odds for the risk.
6. Alizee (Best Roughie – $10) Bet Now
Five-year-old mare Alizee isn’t quite a roughie, but she’s paying generous odds. The 10-time winner has a good strike rate and she’s a two-time winner on this track.
Her run for fifth in the Canterbury Stakes wasn’t good, but conditions and the race wasn’t run to suit. She’s better than that, and her overall record demands attention.
Hugh Bowman takes the ride from an inside draw and she could produce a turn-of-foot in these conditions.
7. Super Seth (Best Each Way – $5) Bet Now
Anthony Freedman lines up the three-year-old colt that owns a stack of ability. He showed that when winning the Manfred Stakes fresh up.
His run for second in the Futurity Stakes behind Streets of Avalon was good, and he’s ready for the step up in opposition.
It won’t be easy taking on this field, but he gets weight off their backs and that could make a big difference in the run to the line.
8. Brandenburg ($17) Bet Now
Brandenburg is a consistent overachiever that ran third behind Shadow Hero last start. We’re not sure if that’s the best form guide for this race, but his consistency is noteworthy.
He has yet to finish worse than third from nine starts, so most punters are banking that this will be the first time his record is tarnished.
9. Spend ($61) Bet Now
Spend is a nice colt in his own right, and he’s coming off a win at Flemington. However, he won’t measure up to them here and he should struggle.
