Golden Eagle Form Guide & Tips
(1) Evaporate ($11.00)
We have Evaporate in our Golden Eagle picks. He is a tough customer, and although he might not be as brilliant as some, his effort doesn’t go unnoticed.
He ran second behind Transatlantic last start, who won well last week, so the form stacks up nicely.
(2) Feroce ($51.00)
A solid effort two back, but he has never been a Golden Eagle type in our eyes. We would prefer to see him in something easier.
(3) Linebacker ($6.00)
The money was on last start, and he didn’t let punters down. It was an impressive win, and he could have had a chance in The Everest.
A lack of consistency has made him a tough bet most starts, but he appears to have turned a corner, so we’re not leaving him out.
The $6 odds could see some support on race day.
(4) Sepals (Best Roughie – $18.00)
Forget he went around at Caulfield last time out. He missed the jump and got squeezed at the wrong time before Ethan Brown pulled up stumps in the straight.
It’s a complete forgive run, and his form prior was excellent. Bouncing back won’t be easy, but the $18 odds are generous, and he’s going under the radar.
(5) Willydoit ($19.00)
The Kiwi hasn’t received an overly good draw, but he’s not out of this. He has been going through his gears in two runs back from a spell, and he should be hitting peak fitness now.
He’s a first four chance with his best form.
(6) Fully Lit ($34.00)
There is nothing wrong with his recent form, but winning a Golden Eagle could be beyond him. The field is simply too hot, so save him for another day.
(7) Depth of Character ($101.00)
Eight starts at Randwick for only two placings. Not the greatest Golden Eagle runner we’ve ever seen, hence the big odds.
(8) Lord Penman ($67.00)
Solid form since moving to the Waller stable. We’re starting to see NZB Kiwi form measure up, but we think he’s a level below the best in Australia.
(9) Mayfair ($71.00)
Handy efforts to place either side of a spell, but he’s another runner that will likely be outclassed. Bjorn Baker can work wonders, but this would top them all.
(10) Shangri La Spring ($67.00)
He could inject some speed into the race, but we see him getting tired late. It will be a high-pressure race, and he’s not fit enough to handle it.
(11) Cristal Clear ($101.00)
Good form, but he’s a surprise entry in this race. Looks outclassed at the top level.
(12) Panja Tower (Best Each Way – $6.50)
It has been an international race, and Panja Tower should be tough to beat. Japanese runners are built tough, and his wins either side of a spell have been excellent.
If there is a danger to the favourite, it’s Panja Tower. He could score in the hit-and-run mission.
(13) Seagulls Eleven ($26.00)
A European runner with two wins to his name. He has stakes form, but he could be outpaced against an elite field. Watch for any late betting moves.
(14) Autumn Glow (Best Bet – $2.10)
The star of the show. She is unbeaten after seven starts, and although she doesn’t win by big margins, she knows where the winning line is.
Waller has her ready to fire for the main event, and we’re not surprised by the odds. She has been carefully managed throughout her career, and she could win the ultimate prize.
Expect plenty of betting moves throughout the week for the favourite.
(15) Perfumist ($19.00)
She races on the speed, and her chances hinge on how fast they go up front. If she gets an uncontested lead on a slow speed, she could kick away and figure in the finish.
Include her in first four picks if you have room for one more.
(16) Modella ($101.00)
The four-year-old mare comes off a win, but she won’t keep up with this field.
(17) Eclair Encore ($201.00)
Connections are having a stab, but it’s unlikely to be a fruitful experience.
